My lovely wife is in Texas, visiting the parents. I'm glad she's getting to visit, since I know she was pretty stressed at not being home while her mom was having the surgery. So, it's good for her to get to see them. *nod* I as usual am a mopey/grumbly/antisocial thing, on the other hand.
Normally, this would lead to me starting a flame war, but I'm not in the mood today. Instead, I'm over on Jack Fm's website, playing donkey kong and pac man. I still suck at them, oddly enough. *shrug*
Aside from that, I'm missing my wife, who I'd normally be chatting with, and piddling with camp/school forms. (hate this time of the year so much.)
Jess and I were talking earlier this week about how remote the chances were of us finding each other the way we did.
Even if you take into account what we had in common back then: 1. We both liked wrestling. 2. We both wrote fanfic. 3. We liked some of the same characters.
Back in wrestling's heyday, there had to be thousands of sites about it, and a decent chunk of those were fanfic oriented. So, the odds that we'd both end up on the WWFF board had to be slim.
Then, there were probably about a hundred or so posters back then. Of those, I think I still talk to...3. Maybe 4 if you stretch "talking" to mean "see their name." Chances that we'd start chatting? Probably not horrible, since we liked a lot of the same characters.
Then, there's the whole "net" thing. Chances that we'd get along well enough to think about each other romantically? About average, for anyone online.
Then, there's the geographic and demographic divide. I was 27, in Baltimore. She was 17 (god, I suck, i'm a horrible cradle robber, I know.) and in Chicago.
Then, there was the meeting (get your mind out of the gutter, she was 18 by then). One glorious weekend in Chicago.
Then, half a day in Baltimore, then Labor day weekend in Baltimore, when I proopsed, then a long weekend in Ohio where she was at college. Then, a week in Ocean City. Then, a weekend with other fen in New Jersey (odds that that wouldn't blow up in our face, yet look, out of the four, three are on my friendslist. (the three sane ones...sort of) *grin*) Then, she moved here for good.
Again, any of those could have gone so horribly wrong, could have taken any turns other than the ones they did.
And now, here we are, six+ years after I first admitted that I was interested in her/had a crush on her. I wear here ring, and she wears mine, and I'm so very much in love with my wife.
Even though our life isn't perfect, and I bitch mightily about circumstances beyond my control quite often, I know how blessed I am.
Cause in a very real way, I got the fairy tale. Sure, there's no such things as happily ever after, but I'm pretty happy with my "happily together."

Date: 2006-04-23 01:07 am (UTC)And the Scar we had makes Jeremy Irons look like the bastion of heterosexuality. He had go-go dancers! Shirtless male hyena harem boy strippers! And he leered and thrust his hips at them!
Of course, Simba's back-up dancers at a big emotional break-through (I WILL go back and be king! Because the big wooden face said so!) were mostly buff black gentlemen in multi-colored tribal garb that, to me, looked like skirts. Like "Are they gonna break out in Today 4 U?" skirts. And lo, I died.
How's things on your end?
