Once in a while, mornings seem to come super early, don't they? I woke up at 4:40 and took my Rybelsus, then laid back down on my side, and promptly fell hard asleep. When my alarm went off, it kind of startled me, because I was seriously slumbering. Oh well. It'll wake up the rest of the way soon.

Yesterday was another absolutely insane day at work. Didn't take quite as many calls, but that could be because I had a new patient, then I had to talk an 83 year old through attaching a picture of her order to an email. New patients always slow you down.

It always drives me crazy when people don't use interpreters correctly. Aside from the beginning of the call, you're supposed to speak like you're talking to the pt. No "will you tell them" or "please say." Just a conversation. That goes for any type of interpreter, including sign language. When I was training, that was a sticking point for my classmates.

Last night, I fried up some super thick pork chops and made baked french fries with old bay. I started the oil with a teaspoon of minced garlic and a few ripped up sage leaves. Holy shit, it turned out really well. Even my BIL, who was a professional cook said how good it was, which made me feel good. My sister and Jess always say nice things about what I make, but he is a little bit less effusive, so when I get a compliment, it's always really nice.

Today is probably going to be chicken, no clue what. I had a request for chicken thighs, so I'll go with that. I need to grocery shop, so we're down to the basics. Parmesan, mozzarella onions and a little bit of bacon.

This week, the BIL would like me to get some stuff from Sam's Club for him. We'll split some of it, since he only lives with his mother, and doesn't need 4lbs of sausage. I'm debating between going up and shopping vs just putting in an order. I may see if I could take a few hours on Friday and go shopping.

Today is payday, so we'll watch that disappear quickly!

Okay, time to go forth and get myself together. Everyone have an excellent Wednesday!!
Every so often, you find a lyric that just catches you. This week, I decided to do my subject line from Halestorm lyrics. And I've heard this song before, but I don't know if I picked up on every single lyric. But looking at it, I think this is going on the playlist next to Pink's "All I Know So Far," for lyrics/songs that make me feel like I can do anything. "I am the one I've been waiting for." is going to go right next to "You might give yourself away, and pay full price for each mistake" for turns of phrase that just hit me in the right place.

Yesterday was 100% a Monday. We were bonkers at work. I ended up taking 56 calls, plus filling in three separate Cardiac CTs that opened up in the next week, each of which took a few calls to find people who could fill in. After work, I relaxed for a moment, then cooked some beef and carrots for dinner. The beef was tough as hell, but the carrots turned out nicely. I made them with olive oil, molasses, paprika and salt. They were really good. Slightly sweet, slightly salty. They all got eaten, so I must have done something right!

Jess has mentioned it on Bluesky, so I figure I'll put it here as well. They're starting the process to get top surgery. As long as I've known them, they've hated that part of their body, and the fact that it's too full to effectively bind. We'd put it off as a "when dad is gone, we can look into reduction." But lately, I've been noticing that it's been bothering them a lot, so I brought up the thought of full top surgery, and having chest masculinization vs reduction. It seems like the recovery period is pretty comparable, and our insurance covers either, so they decided to go for the one they really want. Hopkins has a surgery center, but it requires a few hoops to get an appointment, so we've started on those. The hope is that sometime towards fall or the beginning of winter they'll be able to get surgery.

The drama with the forgotten/lost IRA of my uncle's continues. My sister called yesterday, since we'd sent our paperwork in. They weren't able to tell her today how much it's worth, but promised to call back today with the info. It's still murky to me as to whether this is going to go into the estate, or since Dad was dead before they contacted us, if it will come directly to us. Hopefully we'll know something today.

In exciting news, our realtor has actually sold the house! We'll have about 30 days to get shit out, so Jess and Shelly may go over this weekend and get what they want. I've spent enough time in the house for the last week, so I'm just going to stay here with the dog. Plus, I found just about everything I've needed. And I don't think I'm going to find the rest, so I'm just going to make like Elsa and let it go.

I guess when we look at it like that, it was a fairly eventful day! And on that note, I'm going to go forth and consider getting ready for work. Everyone have a stellar Tuesday!
It's Monday and I am very sleepy this morning. Last night, I was suddenly anxious as hell, so I took a couple of anti anxiety pills, and today I am having the aftereffects. I'll perk up with some coffee, but for the moment, I'm kinda tired.

Yoda was a total little fuckface yesterday. The only way he shuts up is if my sister goes in her room or if Jess and I sit at the dining foom table. It's obnoxious. I don't know how to fix it, because nothing works. If you ignore him, he barks, if you do anything but those things, he continues to escalate, jumping up and climbing on me like a jungle gym, and generally being a hell beast. It's making me dislike the weekends (and dislike the dog or at least resent the fuck out of him.)

I decided that I was going to take it easy yesterday. Yeah, that didn't work out so well. First, I cooked breakfast. Two dutch baby pancakes, bacon and sausage. It was very good, though the dutch babies weren't as good as the first one I made. I think that may just be one of those things that you have to make one batch at a time. Which is not a huge problem, just a learning experience.

Then, I filled and ran the dishwasher. Then, I did the rest of the dishes and cleaned the counter and stove really well. Then, I swept the floor, and then I ran the wet jet mop over it. Then I sat the fuck down, because my back was shrieking.

For the afternoon, I showered and relaxed until it was time to slice some onions and start dinner. We had Chicken curry, using the Golden Curry cubes. I used four, then added another four because it wasn't strong emough. It had a lovely flavor, and I'm definitely going to be trying the other types of curry they sell.

Tonight, I have no idea what I'm making for the main dish. It may just be a roast, and some veggies. We've got Collard greens and carrots to use up, so I'll probably make one or both. The collards require a bit of a time investment, so I'll probably start cooking them this morning, or on my lunch break, to at least get the bacon cooked and the collards preped. Oh, and the chicken broth ready (I think we have enough chicken base to make stock..?)

Okay, time to get my ass in gear. Everyone have an outstanding Monday!
Happy Sunday, y'all! It's early but a small cat had needs. Today, I have nothing planned. Was going to vacuum, but supposedly, UPS is coming tomorrow for these enormous boxes from the fireplace that came broken on Monday, so I'm going to wait. The packaging in them had disintegrated, and there's little bits of styrofoam all around them that i can't reach with the vacuum. I did clean the kitchen yesterday, though, and I'll probably vacuum out bedroom and maybe the hallway today.

Yesterday was a mixed bag of a day. Not long after I posted, I dragged Jess to the Second Chance Flower Shop. The clouds had rolled in a bit, so it was gray and chilly, but I still got out of the car and stood in line to get in. (Jess wisely stayed in the car. Of course, then when they got out the alarm went off because it assumed that they were trying to steal it. I clicked it after a couple of minutes and it shut up.) The shop was smaller than I expected, and apparently they restock on Tues and Thurs, so they were a bit picked over. I did get a couple of herbs that they had, Sage and Parsley to go with my Mint plant. Then, as we were walking through, a bright spot hit my eyes.

It was a small, but bright red Dahlia flower with three more buds on it. I immediately put it in my little basket. Totalled, the two herbs and the flower were $12.69. I had no complaints. I brought them home and installed them in the window by my desk. The dahlia will probably split time between my desk during the day (sunlight!) and the living room in the evenings, to be pretty.

I do want to go back, maybe on Thursday when they restock and see if they have any more herbs, or if I need to make a trip to Lowes or an actual nursery.

I may need to get an actual windowsill planter to put all the plants in to save space. (Except the mint. That stays in its own planter and keeps to itself. I'm not completely new to this game.)

Yoda was a total pain in the ass all day. He doesn't like the weekend. It stresses him out when we don't follow routine, and he makes it all of our problems. I was so thoroughly frustrated and resentful about it that I took two anti anxiety (and gave him one) in the hopes that he'd settle down. He didn't.

I abruptly got a yearning for a soft pretzel, so my sister drove me to Sam's Club. Sadly they did not have cinnamon sugar, but their regular pretzel was pretty good. They seem to make them out of the pizza dough and douse them in butter with a little salt. I also got a hotdog and a 4 meat pizza. Totalled, it was $14, so that was lunch and dinner for us. In the evening, I made Yoda more cookies, and cooked some sausage for breakfast.

After that, I worked on my campaign for a bit, got some more maps and sourced a couple of more. Then, I imported characters from other campaigns to be renamed and reskinned as members of the Royal family.

I'm very pleased with how things are coming along. We've set a date to start of April 26th, which gives me a whole month to get things ready. The hard part is going to be the maps. I need a bunch of maps for this, preferrably with water or pools in most of the rooms. So far, it's been a challenge.

Today, I'm going to make breakfast, with the aforementioned sausage and maybe bacon. Also pancakes. It will be tasty.

Dinner, since I found my little golden curry cubes will be chicken with curry sauce over rice. I don't have a ton of veggies, so it'll probably just have onions and garlic in it. I'm looking forward to trying out this curry. The box is so tiny it got lost on the shelves for a few weeks, so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Aside from that, I may work on my campaign some more and do a bit of cleaning?

We shall see.

For now though, I will bid you adieu and go get dressed. Everyone have a wonderful Sunday!
It's the weekednd! I'm really fucking glad that I checked my schedule yesterday before I stopped work. Turns out, this is my weekend off. I work next week! I slept in an extra couple of hours, and it was lovely.

Not a whole lot planned this weekend. No games, nothing going on. I defintitely want to do some cleaning. My sister is going to be out for a few hours tonight, so I might watch some of Daredevil. (Not that I couldn't watch it with here here, I just never think of it.

The one thing I might do is this morning/early afternoon. A nursery opened near the house called "Second Chance Plants." Its a nursery that takes overstock plants and discounts them. I really want some fresh herbs, so I'm going to go over and see what they have. I'm super poor, but they do advertise plants as cheap as $1, so I'm going to go check it out. This weekend is the grand opening, so I'm going to see if I can find a nice thyme and maybe some others in my price range. I'm very excited about this, as I would like to have more green in the apartment. Right now, I just have a wee little mint plant on the windowsill next to my desk. I love it, but I want it to have some friends!

Actually, I might also see if they have pots and soil, because I need to transplant my mint into something bigger. It's grown quite a bit since I got it.

Tomorrow will defintely be laundry and some vaccuuming.

Last night, we had the barramundi with broccolini. I was a little nervous, because generally speaking, I'm not a fish person. I just cannot with the fishy taste. I even made a parmesan sauce to put over it in case I hated it.

I'm pleased to report that I actually really *liked* it! It wasn't fishy at all, and was a firmer fish, so it didn't feel squishy like some lower quality salmon. Downside, it's super hard to find. The only place I've found it is Walmart in frozen. It's an Asian Sea Bass, so it's not like you can go trawling in the Chesapeake Bay and get it fresh, I suppose. Wish we had some farm raised around here. I'd really like to try it fresh, but it doesn't seem like anywhere has it.

Anyhow, really good, didn't need the sauce at all. The broccolini was also good. Debating on what to make today. Whatever it is will have mushrooms, because I don't know how long the ones I have will be good for, so it's time to use them. I'm thinking chicken over rice with a cream of mushroom sauce. I'm lucky that Jess dislikes the texture of mushrooms, but likes the taste. It's just going to be them and I tonight, so I'll see. I may save the big preparation for tomorrow. We'll see.

And now, I shall go get pants on to go look at some plants! Everyone have an excellent Saturday!
Good lord, I'm sleepy today. Yesterday was a productive day, but good lord, it wore me down.

Work was fine. For once, I only mostly took calls. Only made a few outgoing ones. It was busy, like it's been all week, but I did have a couple of tough patients. One, a dude whose doctor wants him to have his MRI by Tuesday, and one who is just a little dotty. Both calls took a little bit of time. The first one started out by asking to speak to a manager. I got him talked down, and will call him this morning to give him an update.

After that, I headed over to the house and started looking for things. Jess and my wedding rings, some jewelry of my sister's. Found a few things, but will probably need to do some more digging. Then, the realtor, Marty arrived, and went over some stuff. Then, while my sister signed the paperwork, I went and got a couple of keys made. Of course, while I was at the hardware store, the heavens opened in one of the worst storms we've had in a while. I got soaked. Then, I had to haul the bags that I had filled down to my car, which got me even more wet. I was a drowned rat by the time we were home.

The bad news: he's not sure he can get enough that we can make anything on it. The good news: he's willing to try. And no matter what, it's out of our hands. If he can sell it, awesome. We might get $7 or 8k out of it if he can. If he can't, he'll deal with selling it back to the bank. Either way, we're done, done, done. Still have a few things to get out, but we'll have thirty days, even if it sells today.

Last night, because I had to leave right after work to go to the house, we just had basic Gochujang marinated chicken. Very tasty with a little spice. By the time we got home, we just dove in like ravening dogs. Today I'm going to make something a little nicer. For the first time ever, we're going try barramundi. The internet swears it's very light and buttery and not too fishy. I'm not generally a fish person, but I'd like to get more omega3s into our diets, and I figure if I can make a nice sauce, it might be okay. Then, I'm going to blanch, then saute some broccolini. Also a first for us. New things all around!

Tomorrow, no clue what we're having. I will have to think on it. I know I want to do some vacuuming, but beyond that, I haven't decided on anything. And now, I believe I shall go forth and get pants on. Hopefully they've dried out a bit from last night. Everyone have a stupendous Friday!
Two more days til the weekend, whoo! Work continues to be super busy. It seems like every time I look at the queue, it's all red with calls waiting. I try to get as much of my outside work (shifting patients to fill holes and make new ones.) During the early morning so I'm available for calls, but sometimes, we get a late cancellation for the next day, and I've gotta work it. I don't know, but there's always the hope that this will be building to them promoting me to a new job. I don't know how long my coworker J, who calls patients will be working, since she's been here 30 years already, but I'm wondering if I'm being groomed for that job. We'll have to see.

Aside from work being busy, yesterday was a quiet day. I took a nice hot shower in the morning and washed the house off me. We had a nice dinner (pork chops and brussel sprouts) and went to bed early.

Today, after work, I need to go back to the house to meet with the guy who might like to buy it. If he doesn't, I'm thinking we just let the reverse mortgage people take it. There's not a ton I need to get out now. Maybe a couple of things? I'm going to leave at 5 and go over, and see if I can get into my sister's room to get her jewelry box, and in our room to see if I can get our handfasting cord and if I can find our rings. That's about all that I need. We'll see what I can find. I'm really not looking forward to it.

Then, it'll be home to take a shower and wash the house off again and eat and sleep. Then tomorrow is Friday!! Whoohoo! We've got no plans this weekend, so we'll just take it easy and do some cleaning. I really need to vacuum the living room, dining room and our room/the hallway. The cat won't like me doing our room, but we've gotta get her litter up. Despite a high sided box and a large mat, she manages to kick it straight onto the carpet. And I'll probably cook something tasty. Don't know what yet, though.

Okay, time for me to get myself together. Gotta marinate some chicken legs so that Jess can just toss them in. Everyone have an amazing Thursday!
We've made it halfway into what's looking like a long week. Work was again crazy-busy yesterday, plus I ended up doing some extra work, looking at making a couple of holes for MRIs. A lot of time, we have patients that schedue at 12, but there's half hour openings at 11:30 and 12:30. There are plenty of half hour MRIs, but lately it seems like everything has been an hour. So I've been looking at schedules, and calling patients to moved them half an hour up or down, so that I can open up that hour for an urgent patient. It's just looking at the schedule strategically, and then making some calls to shift patients. I'm surprisingly good at it.

About half way through the day, my sister texted that Audible had taken something out of her account, and the homeowners insurance had bounced. I immediately jumped into action and called an estate sales place, and set up a time for them to come and buy the Hummel collection at the house. It wasn't worth much at all, only $200, but it's something.

I hated being back in the house. It made me feel bad. Physically, mentally and emotionally. It horrifies me that we lived there like that for so long. It was horribly dusty and dirty and unpleasant. It's no wonder that our mental health sucked shit. I used my inhaler more in the two and a half hours I was there a couple times, which is unusual. I was seized by an urge to just get rid of the house. So, I called a house flipper, and will meet them there on Thursday to see if we can just offload it. I don't know if it'll be worth anything, but we'll see. If not, the reverse mortgage people can just have it. I don't want it, and it's just an albatross hanging around my neck.

After I got home, I had to wash my hands and face to feel human again.

We went with the lasagna last night since I was out. Tonight will be the pork chops with brussel sprouts. Still debating on how to cook them, but I'm thinking maybe a bastardized Char Sui. I don't have vinegar, but I'll see what I can work. Nah, looks like I'm missing a few things. Next paycheck, I'll get some rice vinegar, more hoison and Chinese Five Spice and make it.

Not sure what I'll make for Thursday. With the dude coming about the house, it might be more lasagna. Or simple baked chicken legs. We'll see.

I did get a little bit of time to work on the continuation of Mad Mage. I've got the first 15 scenes plotted out. I've got a little bit more work on Kanka for worldbuilding, but after that, I can get into making character sheets, and finding appropriate maps for the undersea kingdom. I made the campaign public if anyone's interested in seeing what the hell I'm talking about. https://app.kanka.io/w/310530

Okay, time to go forth and take a shower. I still feel a little scummy from the house visit. Everyone have an outstanding day!
It's Tuesday! We survived Monday. I told Jess that I always know it's going to be a day when I reply to the good morning chat thread on Teams, and immediately I see one of the bosses begin typing to me in private chat. Yesterday even surpassed that, as before I signed on, I saw him typing, and by the time I signed on, I had a full message waiting with people to call.

Most were just offering an earlier appt, super easy. But there was one, where I needed to move a patient from one site to a less convenient site because of behavioral issues. I was told that I needed to come up with a reason for the switch, but not tell them it was due to past incidents.

I accomplished it handily and even got them a MRI same day so that we didn't have to do the dance again. And, I got them to thank me for inconveniencing them, so that we could get them the "best possible scans."

I also found 3 hours worth of cardiac MRI slots in our busiest site, got a pt in for a STAT cardiac CT and some mammograms. I've started giving my direct line out with the caveat that if I'm on the phone with another patient, I will call you right back. I don't know that I'm supposed to do that, but it beats having the pt call back on the main line and either have to listen to our hold music while someone tries to get us, or the other person takes care of it and forgets to notify me or the leadership, and then, I waste time puling them up, seeing that they're rescheduled and then closing the loop with leadership.

Then, it was off to cook the traditional iris meal. Corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. The cabbage I had was freakking enormous, so I only made 3/4 of it. Then, I did make colcannon, adding bits of the cabbage and some bacon and onions to the mashed potatoes and then haivng the cabbage as a side dish as well. Verdict, pretty tasty, though the corned beef was kind of tough. It definitely needed another hour or so in the oven to really tenderize. Still tasted good, though.

For me, the mashed potatoes dripping in butter were the highlight.

Today, we will probably do pork chops, with some brussel sprouts. No clue what I'm doing for the sprouts. Maybe more bacon. lol. Debating whether I cook the pork chops via bake or fry. Both sound lovely. If I fry, I'm going to have to slice them down a bit to schnitzel thickness, because the size they are now would take roughly forever to cook. They're over an inch thick. Or, I might do another slab of lasagna and give myself a break on cooking. Yeah, I might do that.

Today is going to be another busy day, which certainly makes the day pass quickly. I'm hoping for a little less craziness, but we shall see.

For now though, I'm going to go forth and get myself together. Everyone have an amazing day!
I slept *hard* last night, y'all. I passed out and if we had any of the storms they were talking about, I was 100% unaware. It was nice. Of course, it meant I didn't move between like 9am and 5pm, so when I got up, I was seriously achy. Or maybe that's because I kind of overdid it cooking yesterday.

I worked til 12, then went to the pharmacy to pick up both our prescriptions. Then I stopped by the house which is annoyingly still standing, and grabbed the mail. Then back home to relax for a moment. At around 1:30, I started cooking, secure in the knowledge that it was going to take awhile to cook and assemble and bake. I started off by chopping onions. Then, it was time to cook them, with a bit of olive oil. Then, add a copious amount of garlic, and sauté them as well. Last for that pan, spoon some of the onion mix into the sauce and add in the spinach to wilt. I had gotten a big bucket of spinach from Sam's club. It was enough that I had to do them in two batches.

The sauce was plain cans of tomato sauce, so I doctored that with a lot of basil and garlic and oregano. In the end, it had a lovely flavor. The Five cheese mixture came together easily. Ricotta, mozzarella, asiago, Romano and parmesan all mixed together.

Finally, it was time to boil some water and cook the noodles. As they finished, I began to assemble. By the end, I had a lasagna that weighed about 8 lbs.

Once that was done, we popped it in the oven for about an hour, and got out this:

It was really tasty, and I was very pleased with it. Next time, I might do two giant buckets of spinach and more garlic, but overall, it was really good.

After dinner, I was so freaking tired that I needed to lay down for half an hour.

I was really pleased witht he outcome, but it's definitely not an every night type of meal. Next time, I may try cooking some stew meat and shred it to be a meat layer. Jess has texture issues with ground meat, but I can work around that.

Today will be corned beef, potatoes and cabbage in some permutation. Still haven't decided between making colcannon vs separate. Definitely doing mashed potatoes.

Debating on what to make tomorrow. Jess has requested brussel sprouts, so we'll see what we want to do with that. No clue what'll go with them. I'm thinking maybe pork chops of some sort.

Okay, time for me to go forth and put on pants. Everyone have an the very best Monday one can possibly have!
New artist for the week. This week shall be Barry Manilow. One of my old favorites, who I still adore. This was definitely my parents music. We would pop the 8 track in and drive to our vacation 3 hours away. By hour two, my sister and I would be *begging* to listen to the radio for five minutes. Just for a little while? But then as I grew and developed my own taste in music, I still would find myself listening to Barry when I was stressed or anxious. When I was 19, he was doing a hits tour, and my sister and I bought tickets for the whole family and took my parents to it. It was one of the better nights I can remember having with them. Everyone was so happy and we all got along for a night. And the concert was really good. To this day, it remains one of my favorite concerts that I've been to. He gives good show.

Yesterday was busy in the morning, but fun. Work was surprisingly busy. I took 20 calls, which is about 8 more than I normally take. I spent some time playing with the schedules, and did some slight shuffling to get another Cardiac MRI slot in three weeks. Since the next slot isn't open until June, I considered it time well spent. There's another one I'm going to be able to clear on Monday. They scheduled via the portal, but the radiologist protocoled it as a different type of scan, so it needs to be moved. That'll be helpful.

Then, it was time to go fetch puppy and groceries. I also made a quick stop to get some keys made. Now my sister has her own key as does the BIL, and we have a spare. Puppy was just adorable with his newly shorn hair as usual.

Apparenlty, he was very good when Jess took him to get groomed. He was good, and perfect, and was so excited to see his groomer that he tried to shove straight through the little swinging door to get to her. A fellow patron (whose dog was terrified) commented "Your dog is so calm!" lol

Once we were home, Yoda was a doll while I played my game and we shot up eldritch abominations in the Old West.

Once we were done, he was a bit of a terror. He doesn't like Jess and I to sit on the couch together. Especially when my sister left. Then, I am supposed to be in the kitchen working, period. He settled after a bit, but not before both of us were pulling out our hair.

For dinner, we ordered from a place called Disbe Good, which has Nigerian food. The beef suya was spicy as hell, but SO good. They had their Disbe sauce that was amazign.

After that, we just chilled, and I wrote a bit more about the world I'm building for the D&D game. I now have finished the queen, her husband, the children and the world's bios. I've got to update a couple of other cards, and then I can start on plot. I've already got about half a dozen things percolating, mostly ways to tie in my player's backstories. I know the gist of the game, and the path it needs to take, but I need more scenes. I mean, mostly the players are going to direct where we go or what happens, but there's a few beats that I need to get in there. Mini goals, if you will.

Next up is my outline of the timing of the campaign. It's going to be a lot of role play, so I want to punctuate some of that with the occasional fight. They're going to be diplomats in a foreign court, so the violence they can do is going to have to be covert or sanctioned.

We've got a game this morning, then we're making some spinach lasagna. I'm looking forward to that. it's a lot of moving pieces, but I think it'll be excellent. My parts are to do the spinach filling and making the spaghetti sauce. My sister is whipping up the cheesy bits and putting the stuff together. We have a metric fuckton of cheese. It's impressive, the size of the mozzarella bag that came from Sam's club. We're going to have cheese for weeks after this.

Speaking of, I'm going to go attempt to clean out the oven from it's butter mishap the other day. Everyone have an awesome Sunday!
Your last Metallica song of the week. Tomorrow who shall I pick? I have no fucking clue.
It's Saturday, and I am working. We had a game last night, so I'm a touch sleep deprived, but it'll be okay. I have a game at 3pm, so I've gotta figure out something quick for dinner, since I'll be starting it at 5pm. Alternately, I need something that cooks low and slow, but I'll think on that. Maybe some pork chops and mashed potatoes. That sounds simple enough.

It's actually a generally busy day. Yoda goes to the groomer at 9:30am, with Jess and my sister taking him. THen, I get off at 12, and must pick up our groceries (yay for Corned Beef!) and the dog, then back for game, then dinner, then fall over.

Actually, I'm getting some sausages for todays groceries, so that would be possible as an easy dinner.

Yesterday was a busy day. I spent some time calling patients back, and trying to fill in some slots. I'm sure I'll be doing that again today. It breaks up the day here and there, which is nice. Then, I cooked some mini chicken pot pies, which were a big hit. Little mishap with the oven, where a butter wrapper got stuck to the bottom of the muffin pan and made some smoke, but nothing caught fire, so I'm calling it a win. Do need to wipe out the oven before I cook those sausages, though.

Then we had game, which is a delightful, creepy romp through a haunted theater. I really enjoyed it, but as usual, the one shot was demonstrably not a one shot. Aside from that, it was super fun. I really enjoyed myself, and the creepy bits were seriously creepy which is awesome. Points to the tidal wave of blood and severed heads that disappeared in the next second, leaving our banged up heroes alive and freaked out.

Tomorrow, we shall possibly go to the bakery, and pick up some pies. We were going to doordash them, but the delivery fee was like $10, and that seemed excessive...Okay, I cracked and put in the order anyway. Pastries for breakfast! So tomorrow, I only have a game at 3. We are going to make delicious spinach lasanga, which I am very much looking forward to. We've always made it with ground beef, but since Jess isn't a huge fan of ground meat, we're going to try spinach! I'm in charge of the spinach, (and presumably noodles, then my sister will be in charge of mixing the cheese. I got the cheese from Sam's club, and it is predictably a ton of cheese. I'm going to be putting Mozzarella on shit for a long time.

Monday will of course, be corned beef, potatoes and cabbage, but I'm still debating on how I'm cooking it. I was considering mixing the corned beef into the potatoes and making colcannon. I still may, or I may do them all separate. What I'm not doing is boiling everything out of existence. I'm going to make this shit tasty and tender if it kills me.

Okay, time to get ready for work and get myself together. Everyone have an outstanding Saturday!
It's Friday! One more full day to get through, and then a half day tomorrow and I'm free! Hopefully work will be relatively easy.

Yesterday wasn't too horrible, though I ended up taking 50 calls. My coworker was out again, so I spent part of it making calls to try to get people in for last minute appointments. Tomorrow, I'll probably do some of the same, as I'll try to fill in any spots that I see for the coming week, especially the high value spots.

I must have sat poorly or something, because by bedtime, my hip and knee were screaming. They're still a little bit sore today, and I have no idea why. The joys of being old, I suppose.

I'm still trying to work on my D&D world, but work makes it very difficult. I need an extended time that I can just sit at my desk and work on it, but all I've got now if scattered minutes here and there.

OMG the dog is being such a little needy shit this morning! He demanded to go out, which I didn't want to because of knee, but he wore me down. Then, I take him out and he pees, then proceeds to meander all over creation and balk when I try to bring him in. I was ready to strangle him. I finally got him to come in, radiating disappointment in my life choices the entire time.

Anyhow, D&D. I have things thought out, but I need to get them on the screen. I didn't really get anything done yesterday. It just didn't happen. Maybe tomorrow after game I'll have a little bit of time to do something. My sister is going out, and Jess has a game, so I'll be soloing it for a while. I'll just sit at my desk and work on the game. I'm hoping to have it ready by the beginning of April.

I need to also read the new module for my Curse of Strahd group, and get that on the calendar. The problem is that our calendar is a fucking disaster, and I'm loathe to put another game on board. We're already having problems scheduling our current games, and I don't want to bump Frostmaiden to once every 8 weeks or worse, since they both share Fridays. I might wait a couple more weeks until summer schedules have firmed up, and then start working on it.

I'm going to suggest trying out Kanka for that one as well. The tier that I subscribed at, I get three premium games, so that might be a good use for one.

Tomorrow, we have a call of Cthulhu game I started in November that's been rescheduled like four times, so that'll be fun as well.

Okay, time to consider the merits of food. Everyone have an excellent Friday!!
It's Thursday and I would very much like to go back to bed. We ran out of our dark roast, strong coffee, so all I have it Jess' flavored coffee. It tastes very good, but doesn't have much of a kick, so it might be a sleepy day. I'm picking up an order today, because sadly they didn't have any slots available for yesterday. Then, I pick up a small order on Saturday with our corned beef, because I couldn't see getting a 6lb corned beef from Sam's club. That seemed a bit excessive for three of us.

In addition to coffee, there'll be all the good meats, including some barramundi fish. I'm going to try that. Neither Jess nor I are huge fish people, but it swore that it was "buttery and mild," so I'm going to try it. At worst, we'll have peanut butter that night. If anyone has a good recipe for fish, let me know.

I spent Wednesday in an agony of waiting for our dishwasher to be delivered and installed. The dude came around one and had it installed by 2. One problem, he turned the hot water off, and forgot to put it back on, and we can't figure it out. Whoops. So I put that in on the portal, and hopefully they'll come today to turn it back on.

Yoda was a total doll during the installation. We put him in my sister's bedroom, and he behaved perfectly, with only a couple little sad whines.

Work has been super busy, compounded by the fact that the team has been having connectivity problems, meaning less people on the phone. So far, I've only been kicked out once. But I upgraded my computer last night to Windows 11, so we'll see how that goes. I'm going to go check it out in a couple of minutes.

The worldbuilding continues apace. I've got a few characters done, have three and a half more to go. Need to finish that, then add some more information on the species that they're likely to find in the Undersea kingdom. After that, it's time to come up with the overall trajectory of the campaign, figure out some scenes, and then it'll be time to find the maps I need for the campaign. Then, we should be good to play!

Okay, time to go boot the computer to see if it finished updating last night. Fingers crossed! Everyone have an outstanding Thursday!
I actually slept really well last night, but somehow I'm even more tired. Ah well. Coffee will fix it! Big day today! Our dishwasher finally came in, and they're coming to replace it this afternoon. This, of course, will mean that Yoda is about to have a bad day, but we've been waiting for this since the first week we arrived. Apparently the dishwasher that fits has been on backorder for nearly two and a half months.

I had planned to take the afternoon off, but I wasn't able to get the day, because we're full up. I agreed that I'd work til they get here, and then I'll take my lunch, and we'll see how long it takes. If it's more than 1hr, I'll let my boss know, and we'll figure it out. I literally cannot work while they're here, as it would be a ginormous HIPAA violation.

I spent all my free time yesterday working on my world. It's going well, though the mermaid queen's bio is running super long. I might need to cut some of it down. Though I like everything I've written so far. I've got the second half of her bio, and then her son's bio to write, and a trusted advisor, and that's all the stuff that I'm going to fill in for characters. I'll do a little more work on the world, as I need to figure out what the lost kingdom has that the other countries want. (Something along the line of vibranium in Wakanda.)

Oh, I also need to fill in the info for the chemist they'll be traveling with from their city. The rest, the party will be learning about and filling in, or I'll be filling in as it's revealed. The app that I'm using works really well so far. When you're filling in things, you can add links to other pages using the "@" symbol. And if there's not a page for that character or location, it'll create one. It's very helpful.

Today, my goals are to finish the queen's entry and maybe get her advisor done. The son is going to be another long entry, I think, so I'll hold off on that. I've only got a few games this weekend, so I'll try to finish getting stuff done then.

Once I finish that, it's time to come up with a bunch of scenes and decide on some scenes and the ultimate answer to the mystery. Then, I'm going to have to decide what to do with the potentially invading nation. I believe I'm going to tie that into one of my player's backstories.

It's Payday! I will have 5 minutes of money! Whoohoo! Then, I get to pay my car insurance, car loan and cell phone bill. Oh, and electric bill. It's a lot all at once. The one thing I don't have to pay is internet. Since they couldn't give me free installation at the apartment, they instead gave me a gift card that'll cover two months of the bill.

Okay, time for me to go forth and get ready for work. Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday!
My beloved kitty woke me up early today. Apparently that extra 20 minutes was just too long for her to wait for food. I resisted for a few minutes, wanting to get every minute of sleepy time I could, but then she began stampeding around the room, so I got up rather than have her wake Jess, too.

Yesterday was absolutely bugfuck at work. I had just gone into the morning thread at 7:55 and left a good morning message, wen I see my boss start typing on Teams. And I'm like "Oh. It's going to be that kind of Monday."

And I was right, it was. We have a woman who does admin work at one of the sites, and in addition, she also calls patients back for us, so it's not taking anyone off the phone on busy days. She was out yesterday, so they asked if I would do the calls. I said of course, and by the time I finished getting coffee, I had a list of people to call. This continued throughout the day, with emails dropping in on a fairly regular basis. I ended up taking 50 calls in addition, so it's not like I was slacking on my normal work, either. I was there almost 10 minutes late finishing shit up.

After work, I had my monthly psych meeting. We are keeping my meds the same, but he was a touch talky, so I was late getting to making dinner. It was a little late, but the Chicken Paprikash turned out really well, and had a nice flavor. We used Trader Joe's smoked paprika, which was very tasty. Like I said, it wasn't a traditional version, but it seemed from the stuff I saw that it was a very "throw whatever you have in the pot" type of dinner, so we had it with onions, garlic and rice. First, we seared the chicken, then we sautéed the onions and garlic, then rice to brown slightly, then we added the paprika, then some chicken broth. Once that was well mixed, we tossed the chicken in the liquid to finish cooking and let it go for a good 25 minutes, until the rice and chicken were done. It was very comforting, though slightly salty. I would probably not salt it, since the smoked paprika had some sat, and so did the chicken base. I made the chicken base a little bit strong, since I wanted some flavor in the rice, and I might cut back on that a little to cut the salt as well.

Once dinner and dishes were done, we took the doggo for a stroll. Then, I spent some time looking at note taking apps and D&D specific apps for worldbuilding. I think I've found the one I want in Kanka which is a TTRPG-specific app that helps to cross reference your notes to categories.

I'm slowly, oh so slowly, fleshing out the world. At the rate I'm going, I should have the first few chapters prepped, and be able to start playing. As it stands, I could probably still wing it, but I'd like a little more prep and to know who my characters are before we get into it, since they're still evolving. One of the characters completely changed species last night, going from Sea Elf to human, so that was a surprise.

I'll probably be sharing some of the worldbuilding and characters here, but no major spoilers, since two of my players read this. *waves [personal profile] nilchance and [personal profile] poisontaster *

Okay, time for me to do a little more work on the world, and then get ready for work. Hopefully, it'll be a bit quieter today. We'll see! Everyone have an amazing Tuesday!
Y'know what's an awesome start to a Monday? Your phone being unplugged and draining completely, so the alarm doesn't go off. I woke up a half an hour late when my sister dropped something in the shower. Now I feel rushed and off, and of course, my sister is chatty. Immediate overstim.

And I have no pills to take, since today is my psych appt, and I took my last two pills last night. I'm just going to have to tough it out and wait for the Vyvanse to kick in.

Yesterday was a lovely day full of cooking and baking. First, I made a spinach and bacon fry up with mushrooms and garlic. It wasn't quite enough for lunch, but it made a good snack. Second, I wanted something sweet, and bread and jam sounded amazing. Unfortunately the only jam we had was strawberry, and that didn't sound good. So, I made a small bit of jam from a lone orange and some spices and a cup of sugar. It took forever. I stirred until my arm nearly fell off, but I was persistent, and ended up with a surprisingly tasty jam/sauce. It's not quite jam, but really too thick to be sauce, but it tastes good. Then, later, I decided to make cake. I adapted the recipe, and made a ginger and clove cake and put some jam between the layers. It turned out very well.

Then came dinner. We'd been planning to do grilled cheese sandwiches, only to discover that there was only like 5 slices of cheese. Instead I made pasta with bacon. Whoo. It was pretty good, but nothing special. I need to get some staples in, so I can have things for emergency dinners.

Tonight will be bastardized Chicken paprikash. I've seen about a million different recipies, so I'm not terribly worried about changing it slightly. I may make some mashed potatoes with it.

Can I just mention how very much butter I go through? It's pretty impressive.

I spent last night working on the new adventure for the Mad Mage crew. This is what I came up with: "Since the lost kingdom of Arvandor rose from the depths just over a year ago, there has been a race to curry favor with them and to delve the secrets of the capital city, Tir Thaiolin. Word has spread of advanced technology and a cold, aloof people.

Over the last few months, word has spread that the ruler, Queen Neried has taken ill, her advisor Kalanni taking over most of the duties of the throne.

With the Merrow Queen fading and the heirs jockeying for position, the nation of Olleather is poised at the border, preparing to redraw the very map of Faerun.

Seeing an opportunity for an advantage for Waterdeep, Lady Nevermember has sent a request to your residence. She proposes a diplomatic mission to Arvandor, to offer the potion created from the crystals you retrieved to bolster the Queen's health.

You are to accompany Muriel, Lady Nevermember's trusted chemist who will formulate the potion to match the Queen's unique physiology.

While there, you are to gather information on Oleather and broker diplomatic alliances with Arvandor."
.

Hopefully, I'm able to work a nice campaign out of this. I have some ideas for scenes, but as usual, a lot of it will be down to my players. Depending on how they react, I'll be going with it.

I'm thinking for this one, I may use Trello, or a personal knowlege management system to keep track of it. I've got a lot of characters, and a lot of backstory that I need to keep track of. There's actually a really cool app that's about to launch a kickstarter, but I don't think it'll be in time to use for this.

Okay, time for me to go forth and get myself ready for work. I hope everyone has a quick and painless Monday!
I really hate the fucking daylight savings bullshit. I'm awake because of the cat, but my body feels like I should still be asleep. And I could have gone back to bed after I fed her, but I saw it was 7 and felt like I should be up.

Though at the moment, I'm rocking a nasty headache, so if the meds don't kick in, I may go lay back down. Last night, I had a horrible tickle in my throat, and today I'm a little congested, so I'm hoping I'm not getting sick. I haven't really been anywhere that I should get sick, so I'm thinking it's just allergies.

Yesterday, I had a pretty fun day. We finished Dungeon of the Mad Mage. Which was super fun. I don't feel like the boss battle was as epic as I'd like it to be, but I've felt that way about a lot of WotC's baddies. They tend to be poorly done. Since the Mad Mage group is smaller and they're lower level (16th), I thought it would be okay as written, but I feel like I should have prepped him a character sheet and made him more my own. The party had fun, but I wanted more out of it. Then again, the only fight I've been satisfied with was Strahd and Dzaan. Oh, and the doppleganger fight in Frostmaiden was pretty entertaining.

They decided that they wanted to continue with these characters, so we had a discussion of what we wanted out of the continuation, and I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to do next. People seem to love the role play and personal connection to their characters, so I'm going to work on that, with a bit of adventure and intrigue. I wrote out a bit of a blurb so I wouldn't forget what I was thinking of. Now I just need to figure out the mystery and whodunit.

I'm thinking that I'm probably going to set a new room for it, since Mad Mage was a beast of a module, and I don't want to be adding a ton of new maps to it. I'd make the game SO laggy. I can also upgrade them to jumpgate, which will allow me to pull in some 2024 assets for NPCs.

After that, I made an adequate dinner (not my favorite thing I've ever cooked). Oh! The Dutch baby turned out SO well! It was seriously tasty. I really enjoyed it, and will definitely be making it again. I need to double the recipe and get a bigger skillet, because it was basically enough for us to each get a little slice. Jess has a recipe for a Dutch baby with bacon and blue cheese, so I'm going to look into that.

Today, I have Strixhaven at 3pm, which should be super fun. I'm really enjoying the character I'm playing. She was supposed to be a brooding goth, but she's just too damn practical to get away with that. Instead she's a little goth Ursula Vernon/T.Kingfisher character. (If you've never read T.Kingfisher, I highly recommend it, btw. She has horror novels, but also non-horror that will inevitably have you going "wow, that is super fucked up." I am eagerly waiting for her next book later this year.)

Thankfully, it's pay week, so on Wednesday, I'll have five seconds of money before it all goes away into bills and whatnot.

Okay, time to go forth and consider maybe a shower and pants? We'll see. Everyone have a super Sunday!
Whoohoo! It's Saturday! No work today, thankfully. I'm just going to relax, and then have a game, and then maybe make some beef curry, and then take a nap. Or, alternately, I'm going to make a dutch baby and then have game, and then make naan, then beef curry, then rest. We'll see how enthusiastic I am after coffee. I kind of really want a dutch baby, so I may do that. I don't have vanilla, so I'd be subbing a little orange juice or port instead. Maybe port, we have golden port, so it's got a very light sweet flavor.

Tomorrow, dinner is going to be something easy, since I have a game at 3pm, it's going to Jess who's doing the cooking, and I like to make their life simple. Technically, the curry is probably pretty easy, but we'll see.

Yesterday was another fun day. One where I briefly considered calling one of our doctors and yelling. The man committed one fuck up after another, and I had to deal with the fall out. First, he told the patient that he has aggressive prostate cancer over the portal. At that point, he tells the guy that he needs a PET scan, but sends a message to his resident to put in the order. Of course, the guy calls panicked to schedule, and the resident hasn't done anything, so I can't schedule. The dude's English is way better than my Hindi, but it took nearly half an hour for me to settle him down and explain what needed to happen. I checked back right before I finished and the order still wasn't in. Mother fucker, what did you think was going to happen when you write the words "aggressive prostate cancer?" Put the next step orders in yourself like a big boy before you write the pt. Or here's a thought, put the orders in yourself, and then CALL the patient. Good god, smart men are dumb.

Then I had a dude who didn't listen to his message, and just hit callback, so I had to do some digging, only to find that he's scheduled for an MRI with a penile prosthetic. What kind of prosthetic? He had no fucking clue! How do you not know what they put in your body. I know they give you a card with all the info on it. He at least knew where it was done, so I got the info to the tech, and they'll take it from there. Still another 30 minute odyssey.

Despite that, I took 49 calls. I should have known it was going to be a day, because literally the moment I put my good morning into the thread on Teams, my boss started typing to me. It was a Day.

But it's okay, because then, I was able to make a delicious spinach and feta pasta, and relax a bit, do some more plotting with Jess on their book and generally have a good night.

And on that note, I think it's Dutch Baby time. Everyone have an amazing Saturday!
It's Friday! We've almost made it to the weekend! Tonight, weirdly, we have no games scheduled, so I'm just going to take it easy and make some nice feta and spinach pasta for dinner, and go to bed early and sleep until I can't sleep any more.

But first, I have to get through another day at work. This week has been a real bitch. We've been super busy, and it seems like I'm getting all the really complex calls/new patients, etc. I only took 40 calls yesterday despite working my ass off, because I swear, every caller was a new patient or had like five orders to schedule. Or had a multi-phase study that required the timing to be perfect for each thing. Good lord, it was a lot.

To make up for it, I had some very sweet older ladies who took the time to tell me how pleasant and nice I was, which always makes one feel good.

After work, I made glazed carrots, which turned out really well. I didn't have brown sugar, so I whisked together white sugar and molasses with butter and salt and pepper. Then, I got the carrots coated and baked them for about 30 minutes on 400 degrees. They tasted so good. Next time, I need to get a second pound of carrots, and a second sheet pan, and bake them all together, because I'm pretty sure my sister and Jess would have eaten them, too. As it was, there was only a little bit for seconds. The main course was just a left over bacon wrapped pork loin, but all in all, it was a good dinner.

Tomorrow, I need to decide what I'm going to make for dinner. I've got a bit of everything in the fridge, so I've got choices. I'm considering the merits of something with a little kick. I don't know what yet. Or possibly faux Chinese. I have some good stir fry veggies that I could throw in. I think I need to get something different in next week's food order. Maybe some cornish hens, and turkey and maybe some fish. I saw a great recipe for gochujang salmon that I'd like to try.

These days, with money tight, I'm getting my entertainment from cooking. I find that I really enjoy making food for my family. It makes me feel good to put something on the table that is really good tasting and/or healthy.

Since tomorrow we only have one game, and it'll be done at 3, I could make something a little bit fancy. I will think on it.

Okay, time for me to consider putting on some pants and starting the day. Everyone have a wonderful Friday!
