Since Jess has to work tonight, we did our dinner and pressies last night. Went to Ginza Japanese steakhouse--pricey, but well worth it. It's one of those places where they cook on a little grill right in front of you, while you cluster along a little counter around it. Was very tasty, and you can't discount the entertainment value of watching the chef's go at it. I'll give him credit, he's damned good. I on the other hand, suck at catching tossed shrimp in my mouth, as does Jess. You'd think the lesbians would be better at catching seafood!
Was a very nice evening all in all, beginning with a trip to the comic store to kill time until our reservation, and ending with a trip to Loews to pick up seed packets for the garden project. At the comic book store, Jess picked up another issue of Strangers in Paradise, and got a free pass to an advance screening of Starsky and Hutch, which is deeply cool, as it's a movie I want to see...but I'm afraid it'll suck, so I don't really want to pay for it. *grin*
Loews had it's seeds on sale, so we picked up close to 30 packets of all the herbs we want to plant. I'll start them in their seed greenhouse next weekend, after the new moon. I'm planning on this being a very pagan garden, if you couldn't tell. It worked for the flowers last year-the tulips grew beautifully, so hopefully it'll do the same for the herbs.
I'm listening to my Valentine's present right now. Jess got me Dar Williams CDs, both the Green World and Beauty of the Rain. I love her voice, and some of the songs are just amazing. I can't wait to pimp her to Cari. I got Jess the Queer Eye Book, which is a kick, and the Fire Theft CD. It's Nate from Foo Fighters side project, and from what I've heard, it's pretty cool. Might pimp some of that to Cari, too.
And now, back to writing. I've got musi poking again! Yay!
Jess and I were talking after dinner about Ragnarok, and we realized that the characters within the universe have a couple of the same traits as the people they're named after, but that in our minds, they're actually poles apart.
For instance, my Sean, my great Ulfric, has never existed in reality. He's shorter and prettier than the actual Sean Waltman-more delicately put together, less muscle mass, leaner and quicker. My Shawn is also smaller and slighter than HBK, with more hair, and a softer face, more like the old Shawn, I guess.
Really, the closest to anything that actually has ever existed would be Hunter. He's an awful lot like the old DX era HHH, right at the beginning with Shawn. He's not overly bulky, but is strong, and sweet faced, and has that same bright smile.
So, I guess we're curious--how do you all see the characters? Do they still resemble the originals in your mind, or do you have your own interpretations, too?

Date: 2004-02-14 10:23 am (UTC)Hunter always looked like what I hoped Hunter really was like off stage, a fact that by the time I was watching seemed to have been very much disproved. I loved the way that Hunter, for all his imposing apperance, was a little squeamish in your story. It make for an interesting character.
So, there's that. I've long maintained that what sells me on a story is its believability within its own logic, so, especially towards the end of my WWE watching days, I liked your versions of them a whole hell of a lot better, not least because they seemed to help me know more about who the characters might have been when I wasn't watching.

Date: 2004-02-14 01:20 pm (UTC)Mmmmm....hibachi restaurants......
We have a few of those around us, and while they're pricey, they're usually a good place for a meal. =)
The way you learn to catch things in your mouth is to pratice. *ahem* *cough*

Date: 2004-02-16 03:02 am (UTC)And as far as The Rag boys go, I think we've had this conversation. I've only just realised how different they can be from the people they're named for when I've been writing my boys. I don't really see any of your boys as who they were named for any more. Well, maybe a little of Scott and Kevin, and possibly Hunter, old school, but that's about it. I'm not sure if I could actually describe them, but I know when they're vision is in my head, I don't see Waltman making sun. *g*
I'm also fairly sure that made no sense, but I have to say, yay for muse poking! Go boys!

*blush* And thank you for the kind words, as always. I really, really need to catch you online sometime. There's so many additions and changes to the Rag Universe that I won't know when to start.
