Today we have a loving send up of fandom in vid form by Astolat and Speranza. It reminds me of the good old days, when we'd drive or fly hours to go to a vaguely sketch hotel with workers that looked at us weird, just to celebrate the joy of loving something. I got a little snippet of that with the CONFab this past winter, and it was glorious.
Yesterday was wall to wall busy, and I'm hoping for a slightly easier day today to slide into the weekend. A lot of it was of my own making, but still.
Work was busy, but more than the usual, I was getting emails. My counterpart was out, so I got all the emails. I started out the day trying to fill in a couple of appointments, a diagnostic mammo and two cardiac CTs. Then, almost as soon as I did that, the emails started rolling in. All day it was "call this pt and offer this appt." Or one, "call this patient and offer this appt, but we're still working on this second appt." (I found the second appointment easily, and looked really good.) Then, the mother of all emails. Here are these seven people who called downtown. No, it's just names (Every single one of them misspelled) and phone numbers. So that took forever to work through.
At lunch break, I made more cookies--this time cardamom cookies. They're quite good. Faintly salty and sweet, and delicious.
Right after that, I put in a pork roast. The internet told me 3 hours. (The internet lied.) First, I needded to make some BBQ sauce. I found a recipe that sounded interesting, then I added some chipotle powder for a tiny bit of heat. It turned out really well, so I basted the pork and then I made baked beans with it. I wasn't mad about how it turned out.
Then the big stuff. I had made my pie crust yesterday, so it was ready. I rolled it with a bottle of oyster sauce, and slipped it into the cupcake tins. Then, I melted the chocolate. On Too Good to Go, I had gotten the Ikea Spring pack, which was 10 of their leftover chcolate bunnies, two of which I put to good use. My plan was to make custard, and do a little bit of chocolate and a little bit of custard, then the strawberries I got from the farmer's market. Instead, I added a little bit of milk and vanilla to the chocolate and made mousse. Then, I stewed the strawberries with a little sugar and red wine vinegar and just a sprinkle of cinnamon. Paul hollywood would not have approved of the results--the strawberries were very wet, and the pastry was a little soggy, but goddamn, they tasted good. I will definitely make it again. It was like a chocolate covered strawberry, and I loved it, especially the mousse.
Today, I have to decide what I want to make. I'm still debating, but I need to pull something out of the freezer. I'm considering a garlic alfredo to go over some pasta with chicken. I've got some lime to brighten it, so That might be a good plan. We have game tonight, so it needs to be something simple.
And on that note, I'm going to go forth and take a shower and put on some fresh clothes. Everyone have an excellent Friday!
