Welcome to a snowy Tuesday here in Maryland! It looks like we got about 5" of snow. The dog was highly unimpressed that when he squatted, it came up to meet him. I don't really have anything planned today. If I can, we'll go see Dad. If I can't, he'll have to understand.

Yesterday the snow was coming down pretty hard, but not yet laying, so we did some minor errands, and grabbed lunch, and I went to see Dad.

It occurred to me that the chair that is fine to sit for a couple of hours in might not be good for an 8 hour shift, where I'm kind of supposed to stay at the phone for hours at a time. Also, the arm is loose, and I've lost a couple screws, so I think it's holding on with one screw now? So, I've started the hunt for a good, comfortable chair. It's always a challenge to find a chair that will fit both my shortness and my fatness. Basically, I need a chair with a decent weight limit that fits short people. Harder than you'd think. My budget seemed really good when I started looking. I was willing to go up to $350.

Yeah, apparently for a really solid chair, $350 is a pittance. There's a brand that keeps coming up, Steelcase. The average chair is about $1000. I did find a company that refurbishes them, that has it for under $500. I'm leaning towards that, but I'd like to sit in one first. We tried going to a furniture place that specializes in office furniture, but they were closed yesterday.

I know I worked from home for IKEA in that chair, but I wasn't tied to the desk for that job. I was constantly up and down and coming out to say hi to Jess and helping with Dad, and I'm not going to be able to do that when I'm expected to take 40 calls a day. Also, as Jess pointed out, I was having a lot of back problems that the chair didn't help.

So, for now, the hunt goes on.

After failing to look at office furniture, we decided to grab lunch, as it's Restaurant Week in Baltimore County. We stopped at The Local and had soup and sandwiches. Their cream of crab soup was amazing, and the shortrib grilled cheese was equally lovely. Then, it was back home to digest, and then I went to see Dad.

Dad was in a good mood owing to the fact that he stood all the way up in his sit/stand twice! and the second time, they put the paddles down so he could stand and rest his butt on them, and he was up for four minutes. I made over him for a while until the snow started coming down hard and covering the walkways, and then I headed home for the night.

Today's plans are minimal. If I can get out, I may go pick up the dog's treats. I will call the Harford County HR dept, to see when someone is there that I can get my pension withdrawal thing straightened out, so I can get the $!200 I put in back out. Hopefully, Hopkins gets in touch with me so I can get my physical/drug screen scheduled and figure out my flu and covid shots.

Aside from that, nothing planned. So yeah, I'll be bored by noon, and ready to gnaw my arm off.

I shall now go forth and get myself together. Everyone have a wonderful Tuesday!

wow - you got some real snow! but it sounds like life there isn't impacted as badly; having people & infrastructure ready for it probably helps.

I agree that a good chair is important if you'll be spending long stretches of uninterrupted time in it. I think I've heard good things about Steelcase, but have no personal experience with that brand. my work chair is pretty good, but I'm not sure how it would work for you height-wise; it's a Sealy big & tall chair. I'm not super-tall, but it's not too high for me, and my weight made it a reasonable choice. they're not too expensive, and probably available lots of places, including amazon. hopefully you can find something that works well for you
