My 1am alarm this morning really sucked. Now I've gotta find shit that. I can do quietly until I can go back to sleep at 9:30am, so I can sleep the day away. We're going to see how that goes. I'm hoping that my body gets what I want to to do, and I actually manage to sleep some. Even if I only get 5-6 hours, that would be pretty good.

My test went okay yesterday. I got 3 wrong, so I ended up with 88% which gives me 94% overall in the class. I'm a little pissed, because I made some stupid mistakes. I'll get over it, just in time for the next quiz on Friday the 20th. It's kind of terrifying, because we've only got 3 weeks of class left at this point.

Most of that is going to be taken up by the protocol classes, I think. We've got days for each protocol, the medical is I think 3 days. The police may be that as well, Fire I think is a little shorter. If I can kick ass at the third quiz next week, and the final, I should still be in a good position going onto the floor. I've got like four tests left, I think. Quiz #3, the final exam, a Computer Aided Dispatch practical exam, and a Protocol test.

As I texted a friend, this is very much a "test to distruction" type of place. Then again, I guess they really have to. You don't want a technologically incompetent person working at 911.

I'm hoping this shift tonight goes well. I'm really interested in the night shift, so I'm curious how it is and what the people are like. I was really set on night shift, but now I'm not so sure. It would be a big upheaval for the whole family, so I'd have to consider it carefully. I mean, that's assuming I actually could get a day shift. There's so much still up in the air. My next step, assuming I pass all the tests, is to be matched with a partner in the class, and the two of us to be matched up with a trainer.

I feel like our trainer has been watching us like a hawk, learning our strengths and weaknesses, and is going to try to pair up so we're pretty evenly matched. Then it's finding the trainer who would fit both of our personalities.

Either way, it's going to be a huge adjustment. Overtime is always available, and I will probably pick up a few shifts here and there. IF the overtime isn't covered, it's possible that they will call me in early or make me stay late. If the shit really hits the fan, they can call me in and keep me there for 72 hours, working 16 hours shifts, and sleeping in the bunkhouse. (That usually doesn't happen, but it's a possibility.) But on the other hand, 3 pay raises in 1 year. First one should happen in March, when I go from probationary to permanent. That's when I can join the union.

I'm a little excited about the union, I've gotta say. None of my jobs have had one, so it's very cool. Especially since it's illegal for us to strike, we need representation.

Well, I've been up an hour so far. 7 more to go before I can go attempt to use the sleep again.

Yesterday, after the test, we had another "not test." It was a fishing expedition to see if we could remember our policies and procedures, which I'll need to study a bti more. I did pretty well, but I did not remember some of the wording.

After we reviewed those, we had to trek down to the Harford County Sheriff's office, Southern precinct to listen to a cop biovate for a while. They showed us an introductory powerpoint, then walked us around the precinct. Mostly, it was just a lot of walking. My knees are not happy today. We did get to meet Karma who is one of the newer drug dogs. Apparently there's a big deal with drug sniffing dogs right now, that as pot is becoming legalized, they're having to retire the dogs, because they can't explain to them that they don't have to alert for weed. They also aren't training for mushrooms either, because it's legal in California, and they're assuming that's on it's way here. Karma was a very cute lab who upon realizing that she had a group of 12 people's full attention, flopped over for belly rubs.

We went to the melting pot last night for their Oktoberfest menu. It was so very tasty, but holy hell, I was so thoroughly stuffed. You wouldn't think little sour pickles would go with cheesy goodness, but you'd be wrong. They were excellent dunked in the cheese. We couldn't even finish the desert course. Just too much.

It is definitely going to be a struggle to stay up til 9:30 today, I already want to go back to bed and get my 8 hours. I'm going to try to reread the module I'm running tonight. It's been a few weeks since we played Curse of Strahd, and I need to remind myself where the fuck they are and where they're going.

I guess I'll do that now. Everyone have an awesome Friday the 13th!
