Thursday! And I'm up bright and early to go into the office. Yesterday was still a shitshow. Way too many updates and people not working fast enough and not having enough people. I'm 350 updates in the hole to start the day, which will inevitably take until the afternoon to get cleared. Then, we'll have whatever we get today. If the trend for the week holds, it'll be a lot. I'm over the point of being stressed about it. I can do what I can do, and the rest is up to my workers, none of whom are particularly quick. Today, I have one woman whose relatively fast, so hopefully that'll help some.
Today is my current manager's last day. We still have no idea who we're going to be reporting to, so that's fun. The manager above them is on a month long vacation, and it's beneath the manager two tiers up to make decisions, apparently.
Next week, our titles switch over to the new ones. No clue if anything else will be switching yet. That may not be clear until October. We'll have to see.
One nice thing happened yesterday. I had that interview three weeks ago that I was sure I'd bombed. I got an email yesterday inviting me to a second, in person interview. They're looking at schedules now, and should be getting back to me with the hiring manager's availability. It'll be a day next week, that I know.
When I didn't hear for three weeks, I kind of figured I was out of the running. Still, because I had some Torrid Cash, I ordered a pair of nice pants, just in case. Turns out that was a good plan, because otherwise, I would have nothing to wear! I just have to find my comfortable shoes to go with them. Or alternately get a pedicure this week and wear sandals. I might do that, too. I'm also glad I got my hair cut last Friday. I was looking seriously shaggy. The recruiter has no idea how much she perked up an otherwise shitty day. I'm still figuring my chances are low, but I'll try my hardest and hope for the best.
One day til D&D! I will be holding onto that today while I'm in the office. They're heading into an actual quest that's in the module! I'm sure they're going to come at it from an entirely different direction than I expect, so we'll see how long they stay in the lines. My bet is not very long, and I love it. Before the end, they'll probably have radicalized the goblins and unionized them. It's that kind of a party. We shall see. They're escorting some squishy normal people with low hit points, so they should have fun trying to keep them alive with all the enemies the party has.
I don't in any way want to rush the Frostmaiden module, but I do look forward to the end of campaign wrap up, where I can finally tell them all the things that I ended up changing and homebrewing. Some of it was because I just didn't think it was what was best for the party, some was driven by the party themselves. (Who mentions a sunken treasure and doesn't think the party is going to go looking, seriously). Also, when you've finished chapter 3 and 4 and are going back to Chapter 2, you're going to need some of those monsters buffed, and maybe a mini boss to be added to keep things interesting.
The module was meant to be a lot darker, I think, and things much more desperate to force them to move forward into chapter 5, but that wasn't how I ran it, and my players seem to want to clear the map of quests before they move on to the boss fight. Maybe at the end the players will feel like I did the wrong thing, but for the moment, they seem to be having fun, so it's all good. As it stands, there's still at least a couple of characters yet to be introduced, so that could be interesting.
Okay, time to go get actual pants on. And a bra. Ew. And shoes! Everyone have a wonderful Thursday.
