Ah, Thursday. I called out, so I am free for the day, aside from taking Yoda to his vet appointment. He seems to be doing much better, but I still want him checked out. At the vets recommendation, we've been feeding him chicken with rice, which seems to have helped settle his tummy, but we had a few days of major tummy upset, so he's going like it or not. I hate taking him to the vet. I am not good with seeing my animals unhappy or hurting, and I cannot watch them get shots. It just upsets me. I'm kind of a softy when it comes to my babies.

There was discussion on the TTRPG discord last night about the Witchlight module, namely about how "on rails" it is. A lot of reviews describe it as very open world, but I haven't really seen that. It may be because they're doing the pacifist run, and making deals with the hags, so they were stuck in those time constraints. Personally, I found myself frustrated with it, because I didn't feel like the story as we were playing it gave me any room for improv. It's gotten better as we've gotten further into the module, and the last two or three sessions have definitely been my favorite. The characters finished their personal quest in the last session, so we'll see if it opens up a little now. I'm not surprised that my players are noticing the difference. The other two games are very "sandbox" where you have quests, but it's kind of a fuck around and find out, the game. I know it's not a judgement on me as a DM, but I still have feelings that some of my players aren't enjoying it as much as the other games.

But for now, I will prep for the new games. Today, I shall probably reread Lost Mine for the third time, and see what fun shit I can throw at my players in addition to what's in the module. I already cleared out some giant spiders for our arachnophobic player, though I was a little mean, and replaced them with a slightly tougher monster. We have 9 players, though, so that shouldn't be a problem. It's not like I'm going to throw that at them in level one. I'd expect them to be at least 4th level before they encounter them. Maybe even fifth. That should give them like 25 whole hit points. (For comparison, they average 100HP in Frostmaiden.) The beginning of Lost Mine is linear, then it opens up into a sandbox, where players can choose their side quests, and I have no doubt they'll find some stuff the module doesn't cover, just like they did in Frostmaiden, so I'll be ready.

I may do some work on Strahd as well. Now that game is pretty much an open sandbox right away, with a bunch of places they can go, and things they can do. I'll toss a couple of plot hooks out, and the rest will be up to them.

I'm trying to mentally gear up for my sister's vacation starting tomorrow. It's going to be a lot. I probably should have taken off work on Sunday and Monday, but I didn't, and I'm just going to have to suck that up. I should be a bit of a zombie by Monday. At least I don't have anything major that I need to do.

I had an interview yesterday that I'm pretty sure I botched beyond all hope. It was a little outside my qualifications, and I wasn't able to answer some questions suitably, I think. So, I'm expecting a no on that. The interviewer said I'd hear something in a couple of weeks. Honestly, they could just send the turndown now, because there is no way. I'm sad, but it was a long shot anyway, so it's okay. I just hate that feeling of floundering for an answer.

Okay, time for me to have some more coffee and get myself together. Everyone have a good Thursday.
