Ah, my one day to sleep in...and I was awake at 5:30. I refused to get up til 7:30, but ugh, body, why? Just one day til 8, please. Oh well, in a few weeks it won't matter, because I'll be jail breaking my sleep cycle repeatedly and ending up on an entirely new one.

I went to the HVAC interview, and naw dog, thanks, but no. First off, they were running 20 minutes late, and left me just sitting there. Strike one. They were having electrical work done, which was causing flickering lights, which I'm not necessarily holding against them, but it kind of gave me a headache. Then, we did the interview. Started with two women, and a guy joined it later, because apparently punctuality is a thing with this company. They did the normal questions, going over my resume. Then they told me about their "incredibly collaborative" workplace. Which would involve other departments wandering over while I'm trying to do my job, to ask questions. Because apparently teams is not a thing? I asked a bit about training, and they have no formalized training, but they do have cheat sheets! This sounded frighteningly like the job I had as a preop cordinator, when it was like 3 days of shadowing and then they were surprised when I couldn't do this incredibly complex job exactly the way they wanted. Aside from that, the whole "we're like a family" thing worries me. I mean, what family are you like? Bradys? Addams? Bates? And after the interview, they had me take a cognitive test, the Wonderlic. I suppose that's not a big deal, but it annoyed me anyway.

So, after that, I went to a nearby bakery and engaged in pastry therapy, and then came home and signed my letter for 911. The letter is contingent on a physical, drug screen and criminal check, but I don't think any of them will be a problem.

I asked some questions, and my first check won't be for til 10/6, so I am going to work out my time at IKEA til 9/16. I will quit on the same date that I started, 8 years exactly. Then, I'll get my 36 hours of PTO paid out on my last check, which will be on 9/30, so only a week til I get one from the new job. It should work out well. Once I'm officially no longer with IKEA, I'm probably going to take some from my 401k, and pay down some bills that would make life much easier. Pay off our phones, so the bill will drop, switch some subscriptions to yearly and pay less. Hold back a few payments on the car so we can get a cushion.

I figure if I give them a week, then they have time to do an exit interview if they so choose. I'm kind of hoping they do, because I have a lot I'd like to say.

And then on 9/18, I will report to HR to do my onboarding paperwork at 8am. My training is 8-4 Monday-Friday. That's for either four or six weeks, I honestly cannot remember which. Then, it's two weeks on each shift with a buddy, whose calls you'll listen to. After that, you're put on the phones on your shift (probably the night shift).

The nice thing about the night shift is that I'll be home during the day, so Jess won't have to be alone with dad if something goes sideways. I'll be sleeping for 8 hours of it, but I'll be just a call away. Also, it won't affect games all that much. Since I don't have to clock in til 11pm, I can play from 7-9:45 easily. Might have to shave 15 minutes off, but that's not bad.

Thank you all for the congratulations, I really appreciate them! After so many attempts, IKEA really had me feeling like I was lucky they thought I was employable at all.

And then, last night we had a climactic battle Frostmaiden. Having beaten the goddess of Winter, the heroes moved on to face Absolution, the cleric from the paladin's backstory. The fight was glorious and chaotic, and in the end, with some help from his friends, the paladin landed the killing blow.

And on that note, going to get myself together for the day. Everyone have a super Saturday!
