We played til nearly 11:30, so I didn't doze off til close to 12:45, yet here I am awake at 7. Ugh. Going to bed early tonight.
In the midst of an awesome game, I fucked up last night. A long time ago, when Jess' character was merely a twinkle in their eye. we had talked about things I could do to fuck him up, and one was to misgender the character, who is trans. I forgot all about it until the bad guy was monologuing, and then dropped it. It felt bad, but I reasoned with myself that it was supposed to. Then, around 3am I woke up and went "oh fuck, that was bad, and I should not have dropped that on my players, some of whom are trans. So, onto the discord I went at 3am to craft a massive apology, and a promise that it will never happen again. So far, everyone has been very kind, but I will continue to feel shitty about it for a while.
Aside from that, it was a really fun game. I got to drop some backstories on people, including one who had not had their backstory explored. There was much laugher and yells of "oh god!"
I also built up the next big bad--organized religion and the ruling class? It's going to be interesting to see how they deal with this particular obstacle.
Today, we have Dragon Heist, in which our heroes are exploring a warehouse owned by one of the two criminal organizations. Because D&D hates us, the organizations are the Xanathar Guild and the Zhentarim. WTF, do you want me to have an aneurysm, Wizards of the Coast? They are in the second half of the module, where it focuses down on the antagonist you choose. There's 4 different potential big bad's, and you pick the one that seems like the campaign you want to run. Since these are my thirsty players, we went with the more roleplay heavy choice.
Okay, time to get myself together, since I've gotta go to the pharmacy and pick up my Ambien. Everyone have a lovely Saturday!
