And that fast, the weekend is over and it's back to work. I think some of my coworkers are back today, though I can't swear to it. I hope so, it's been too quiet without them around. And on the plus side, it's a short week, as I took off Thursday and next Sunday to have a nice four day weekend. Probably won't do anything, but it'll be nice to have the time off.

Yesterday was kind of a wash for the most part. I did pretty much nothing up until our game at 4. Okay, I actually baked peanut butter cookies (from a mix) and took a shower, but that was the extent of my motivation. It's amazing that I bothered to put pants on, really. The furthest I walked was to the car to get in some sodas for my occasional low sugar moments. Even dinner was just chili made in the crock pot. Dump ingredients, turn on, done in four hours.

The chili turned out really good. I was a little concerned, since we were using Walmart brand salsa in it, and I've never had theirs, but it had a good flavor, and the meat got nice and tender. I dislike that Walmart has the cheapest prices and I'm poor, but I have to say I've never been disappointed by the quality of what I've bought. Their stuff is generally really good, and you can't really beat the prices.

After what felt like an eternity, it was finally time for our anniversary game. The crew were considering the merits of going after the lake monster when they got a message on the speaking stone from their fighter, who they left in Targos to whip the militia into shape. Frost giant skeletons were attacking with a frost harpy! The team wind-walked back, getting there after three rounds of combat.

During those three rounds, the fighter put up some respectable numbers, but also took some major damage. Then, the rogues arrived being the fastest. They jumped into the fight, and the halfling attacked and then was almost immediately hit by the frost giant's freezing stare. The bugbear rogue got an impressive shot in, and did some major damage.

The rest of the party arrived, and chaos ensued. The harpy's song caused 10 points of damage to the majority of the group During the melee, the fighter went down, unconscious. Before she could start rolling death saving throws, the NPC wizard hit her with a healing word gem, courtesy of the bard, and got her back on her feat. She rallied with second win, and healed herself further before she dove back into the fight. The sorcerer called upon her newest spell, draconic spirit and manifested a huge dragon onto the battlefield. The halfling was defrosted.

Finally, one at a time, they managed to take out the skeletons, until only the harpy was left. The paladin hit the harpy with an ensnaring strike, keeping it from flying away, and the fighter finished the harpy off.

A quick chat on the speaking stones confirmed that yes, Auril had attacked both the towns that stopped sacrificing people, which the party was responsible for. Bryn Shandar had the fight under control, having a large number of retired adventurers in it's population.

Half the party stayed in Targos, and half went with the cleric to get more spell components, arriving as the fight in Bryn Shandar concluded. Supplies were obtained.

Once the party was reunited in Targos, the cleric had an idea to check up on the paladin's missing brother. They proposed scrying, but as that doesn't work so well if you don't know the person you're scrying on, they came up with the genius idea to have the bard read the paladin's thoughts to see what the brother, Thorn looked like, and then use disguise self to appear as the pretty, pretty drow man, giving the cleric that familiarity. Honestly, the plan was so inventive, I gave them the bonus on it, because how could I not.

Thorn failed is saving throw miserably, and suddenly, there he was in the cleric's mirror. He was in Easthaven, staring at a mural that had been painted around the chardalyn dragon's displayed head, of the Heroes of Easthaven, aka the party. Aka, his brother, the tiefling paladin. Thorn had some choice words for this display, and immediately went to his room in the inn to start his own scrying spell.

Thus started what basically amounted to a video call, albeit one that only the cleric could see, with them narrating for Thorn. The brothers virtually reunited and caught up about where their new powers had come from. Thorn is a warlock, sworn to the Raven Queen, a goddess of life, death, fate and knowledge. The paladin, while never admitting he's a paladin, admitted that he made a deal with Elistraee for his powers. They agreed to meet up in three days in Bryn Shandar, giving the party time to finish the long-delayed lake monster, and maybe the white moose.

Then, after a rest to top off spell slots, the party headed back to Bremen to check out the lake monster. Who turned out to be friendly, and a little lonely. A druid had given him intellect in return for attacking boats. He didn't really want to, but was afraid of it's sentience being taken away. After assurances that this couldn't happen, he agreed not to attack the town, and followed them in to the docks for an introduction.

We wrapped it up there, having finally dealt with one of the original plot hooks of the game.

Okay, and now, I shall get my butt in gear. Have a good Sunday, everyone!
