And we're back to Sunday. Time to go back to work again. I'm not ready! Why don't we have a 4 day work week yet?
Yesterday was productive at least. We went to the dispensary so Jess could get some more RSO (which is a concentrated sticky gel version of marijuana.) The one place we go has a buy one get one 50% off sale, so they were able to get two things of that. It comes in these little syringes, but it's taken by mouth, it's just for dosing ease. You only need about a grain of rice sized dose, so they're one of the more economical types of pot. They had Garlic Cookies, which is good for pain. The dispensary's a little out of the way, but the deals are worth the (small) trip. Plus, they regularly have in Blue Frost, which is Jess' preferred strain for smoking, and is like trying to find a fucking diamond in a coal mine at other stores.
Then we went to Nordstrom's cafe for lunch. The parking can be a nightmare, so we didn't go there often even pre-pandemic, and definitely hadn't been since. The parking gods smiled on us, and we got a spot right out front, so we went in and had noms. I swear, they've had the same waiter there for years now. He recognized us, and brought us "welcome back" chicken pot pie soups (with a cheddar biscuit floating in the middle) on the house. They were excellent, as everything I've had there is. We both tried something new-Jess had the basil lemon chicken gnocci, and I had the spicy shrimp pomodoro pasta. Both were really good, and plentiful. I ended up taking half my pasta home for my sister to eat. The cafe wasn't crowded at all, thankfully.
Then, we came home to the new TV being delivered. We got a Fire tv, which has all the streaming services built in. I don't know how much we'll use that, but it was inexpensive, and a really nice TV. Of course, the really nice TV refused to connect to our cable box via the coaxial cable, so after much fighting with it, we got an HDMI cable, and that did the trick. Still, after all the pulling and tugging, my back is very sore today.
Then, it was time for Monster of the Week. One of the players had a migraine and wasn't there for it, so I decided to run a one-shot. This time, it was zombies at the music festival!
A former ally, screenwriter Andi Rockenhauser, calls stating that she is holed up in the port-a-potties, because zombies attacked the Golgotha Metal Festival where she was attending. The chaos gremlins head to the festival, and find zombies running amok. After killing a few and saving a concertgoer, they find from her that a band, Celestial Laceration had done a "real magic ritual" onstage. The zombies showed up within the hour.
The crew head to find the band, who proudly show off their book of rituals. The book is pulsing with malignant magic. The lead singer agrees to swap the book for a shiny prop book from a movie. A quick call to Andi, who's still in the port-a-potty ascertains that she has a prop ritual book from Bloodslaughter 5 that fits the bill. They go to save Andi, and the Divine teleports her away from the festival. Unfortunately, Jess had a mixed success roll, so they ended up at the Denny's and had to uber back to Andi's house. They teleported back without incident, and the Expert went to swap the book. In the meantime, zombies in the mosh pit! The dead bodies have reached critical mass, and begin to stir, a new thatch of zombies beginning to rise.
The team sorcerer rolls particularly well, and those zombies stop moving, leaving only a handful to deal with. Unfortunatley, the guilt ridden bassist from Celestial Lacerations runs on stage with note cards he copied from the evil book, and tries another spell to remove the zombies. It fails spectacularly, and the pile of bodies begins moving again, leaving a round dozen to deal with.
A fight ensues, with the players doing their thing in a really smart way, avoiding most damage. The zombies are finally dispatched, and left smoldering on the ground thanks to some fire magic from the sorcerer, and with a lot of decapitated zombies thanks to the divine.
They leave the bassist to deal with the cops and bug out before anyone can catch them, heading to the cemetery where the zombies were raised from to check it out. There's a pulsing portal, just waiting to spit out more zombies! Also a funeral in progress! Ignoring the people watching from graveside, they put on some Loreena McKennitt, and go to work. One Big Magic later, the portal closes, and the adventure concludes!
It was pulled off the internet about two hours before game time, so it wasn't the strongest mystery I've run, but I think everyone had fun, so I'm calling it a win.
After that, it was a quick stop at Walmart to pick up groceries, and back home to crash out. A busy day, but a good day.
Okay, time to get a second cup of coffee, and think about work. Ew. Have a good Sunday, everyone!
