I am so tired this morning, having been up late (for me at least) with D&D, but my body decided that 5am was it for sleeping. Ah well, I took my pill and laid in my warm bed until 7:30, when I gave up and went to make coffee. I have no slammed back two cups, and feel moderately awake.
I did not end up getting my brakes yesterday. I just couldn't muster up the energy. So, I rescheduled for today at 11, when someone can follow me over, and I wont' have to take an Uber. Which just sounded exhausting. What if my driver wanted to talk? Ew.
Then, we don't have a whole lot scheduled, but I am contemplating a trip up to the Amish Market for some meat, and maybe some baked goods. I haven't been up there in a long time, since we've just been getting our groceries from Walmart, which is much cheaper, but I really kind of want some sticky buns, and maybe a crab cake for dinner.
Depending on how long my brakes take, I'll either pick it up before Monster of the Week, or tomorrow as soon as I get off work. (They're open til 5, and I get off at 4:30, so it might be close, but I could do it.)
D&D was mostly role playing, except for one encounter near the end. First up, our players interrogated our middle manager duergar. He turned out to be the son of one of the big bads of the campaign. With a suggestion spell from our Bard, he gave up all of his information on Daddy dearest, down to the location of the fortress, how many duergar there were staffing it, how close he is to finishing his gem dragon, etc. They decided to take him back to one of the big towns who likes them, so that the local law can question him further. The Speaker of that town agreed to supply them with magical items so that they could contact the speakers from long distances. (Basically ye old cell phone.) At breakfast, the innkeeper let slip the location of a part of an ancient city that was known for their world breaking spells and magical items, and the decision was made to go hit that up first, just in case they had a weapon that could aid them in assailing the fortress.
On the road to the ancient Tower, the ground began to shake with the sound of enormous footfalls, and a small boulder nearly smashed into the scouting rogues! Cue a frost giant riding a mammoth's arrival, and it's time for combat! The cleric starts out the fight by bopping the frost giant over the head with their spectral fan. The rogues do a fastball special, which involves the halfling being flung at the frost giant, pointy side first. She stabs, but misses. The fighter levitates at the height of the giant, and stabs successfully! The sorcerer casts dragons breath on herself and the fighter, and toasts the mammoth and giant. The paladin scores a couple of solid hits on the giant's leg, which is all he can reach.
The frost giant, cranky at this, smacks the paladin for over a third of their hit points! The mammoth takes a stab at the bugbear rogue, who uses uncanny dodge to halve the damage it does, which is still substantial. After a battle, the paladin scored the final hit on the frost giant, and the halfling standing on the head of the mammoth put the toasted beast out of it's misery. We closed for the evening on this great battle, and the heroes decided to rest for the night to recover from the damage taken.
All in all, I think fun was had, and thanks to the experience points from the battle, our intrepid heroes attained 6th level. (It's getting harder and harder to kill them, but that just means bigger enemies!)
Have a good Saturday everyone! Tis time for more coffee for me, and then looking over my Monster of the Week notes from last week!
