A few months back, when Jess was waiting to hear from the colleges, I was just hoping for a yes from one of them. When Towson gave her the okay, I was thrilled. It's less than ten minutes away from my house. Her parents weren't as thrilled.
It's a touch more expensive than Miami, and didn't have the same ring as University of MD, so she got a lot of guilt trips. (Plus, her mom went to U of MD.)
About three days before the semester at Towson began, she got word that MD had accepted her, too, but apparently the letter got lost in the mail. At the time, I felt bad for her, since it would have saved some guilting.
Since then, so much has happened. The attack on the Pentagon...which is a bare 10 minutes from U of MD. And then, today, when the cold front moved through our area, it dropped a tornado...on U of MD, went right through the dorms. 2 dead, 50 injured.
Fuck, I'm glad she's at Towson. I'm just sorry she had to work tonight, so I couldn't hug the stuffing out of her, and tell her again how utterly grateful I am to have her in my life.
Just further proof that when you ask the gods, you get what you need, not necessarily what you ask. It just might take a little longer to figure out the reason why.
Yo te amo, chica.
