So, after much thought, I've come to a realization. I'm a total redneck.

Not in a bad way, I don't think. I'm still my normal liberal-leaning, dykey self. But as [livejournal.com profile] justsonya always points out, Maryland is technically below the Mason Dixon line.

So yeah, I'm a little Southern. I just spent 2 years of college learning to hide it. For those who don't know me that well, I spent two wasted years in college taking Mass Communication classes, drumming all traces of a Baltimore accent out of my voice before I got a job on the radio and realized rather abruptly that I fucking hated it. As I've said in the past, I don't know whether I hated the actual job, or that it was for a local Christian Radio station with some of the most hateful programming known to man. But y'know, when you get an internship, you take what you've got.

So, I like Cracker Barrell, and grits, and cooking with real butter. And I actually like some country music, much as I tried to forget that little fact, I like mullet rock, and metal, and deep down, though I bitch mightily, there's nothing quite like a Southern summer, with sticky heat, and honeysuckle and magnoilias blooming.

And deep down, no matter how much I want a nice eco-friendly car that will save on gas and pollution, I still want a nice '72 Barracuda, or a 67 Impala or a Camaro to restore. Something that fucking roars when you hit the gas.

Also, I'm kinda so excited about the whole Winchestercon/Nashville thing that I may bounce myself senseless long before October. *grin*

Grits are nasty, but Cracker Barrel is okay.

Nothin' wrong with being a redneck, as long as you aren't racist. XD Like my neighbors. Which is why I'm getting out the hose right now.

Welcome to the club darlin'.

Exactly. For me its a 72 Chevy Nova. I'm constantly scanning Craig's List for a Nova that's pretty enough and the right price for me to sell my current vehicle. Right now I drive my daddy's old pick up. (I LOVE saying that.) It's a 95 Chevy Silverado extended cab V8 with a broken tailpipe that I can't bear to fix because my truck - she is so loud and pretty. She has a dent in both side panels and a crack in the windshield. She eats far to much gas and is a BITCH to park in LA and I've been saying I'm going to sell her for years now but I just never seem to get around to it. Oh and her name is Snowball. I have no idea why, my Dad named her.

When I first moved here, I tried to swallow my accent, Texan, and most days it's not hard. People sort of seem to embrace it though and think it's quaint and charming. I've also come to learn that the thickness of it is directly proportional to either how pissed off I am or how much I've had to drink. With the drinking I imagine I'll be doing in Nashville, you guys will probably get a good ear full.

Wincon - I'll be there with my boots on! It's imparative that we go see some live music I think. I can't decide what I'm anticipating more lately, s1 DVDs, s2 premiere, or Wincon.

*in whatever denomination or lack there of we choose of course.

Nothing wrong with being a redneck, my dear. Unless you're an ignorant redneck. Those I have no sympathy for.

And that whole dirty south thing just trips out this little California girl no end.
