If I couldn't have cheese like everyday, would you still wanna be with me?
Re my subject line: I know the cheese is supposedly a reference to money, but c'mon JC, that's not at all grammatically correct!
How is everyone?!? It's Saturday!! Yesterday was a cluster fuck at work. Apparently, at around 8am, our software that normally texts our patients to remind them to call to schedule new orders was upgraded, or something was "fixed," and it sent out a text to patients with orders. ALL orders. It didn't matter if that fucker was 3 years old, it texted people that there were new orders available to schedule.
We noticed this when our queue suddenly jumped from it's average, like 10-15 suddenly spiked to 30. Then 50.
We were getting calls from. people that they had received this text, and we'd go in their chart, and there'd be no orders at all or there'd be an order from early 2025 that had been done elsewhere. It was puzzling, but it kept happening. And the number kept climbing.
The system had sent off the text for everyone who had an order. Didn't matter from when, didn't matter if it had already been done under another order number. Nope, they all got it. 6,000 people got an early morning text. And they all called at once, eager to make their new appointment.
It was chaos. It was much different being a PAS III than a II. I was watching the increasingly frantic messaging and taking calls to try to help, but by the time the queue hit 110, it was obvious that one person was not going to make a difference.
The lunch time bitchfest was mostly us sitting there staring at each other while shell shocked. Apparently, we weren't the only ones who were getting slammed.
In the meantime, our shiny new phone system continued to be wonky, at one point merging two patient calls. Thankfully, the pt's couldn't hear each other, but the agents could hear each other. It was very strange.
I offered to work today, just in case. I can take escalations and support the team if there's any problems, and take calls if it gets crazy. Hopefully, it won't, but we're prepared for the worst.
After work, we were going to go to get chair massages at the grand opening of the massage salon, but traffic was absolute hell, so we ended up going straight to get Yoda. We made a brief stop at the Amish Market, since we're not supposed to pick him up til about 5:30, I picked up some ribs that looked amazing, and some sweet stuff. I have molasses cookies! They're so tasty.
Then, it was off to pick up a small dog. They assured met that he'd been a good boy, and the one dude actually seemed sad that he was leaving. He 100% had them wrapped around his little furry paws. All he wanted was snuggles and love. We have so many pictures of him with his head shoving into their hand for more. More pets, plz.

But he was a very good puppy, and apparently "So sweet and such a pleasure to work with!" He was so excited to see us. He barked and wagged and was just adorable. Then he cried halfway home, because he had to stay in his seatbelt and not climb in the front seat into my lap.
Once he finished running around and being cute, he immediately flopped on the sofa and passed out. It's so hard to be a sleepaway camp puppy.
Then, we had game, which was so much fun. I needed that after the day I had at work, even if it cut into my sleep time.
Today shall be the day of making Yoda's food. I should be able to get two batches done today, I think. I have work, and then one game. I'll just start the process before I start work. Then, I'll take a wee break from work to transfer the meat out and add in the grain and vegetable, and then it'l be done when I'm done wor. It can cool a bit during game, and then we bag it and start again.
The clock continues to tick down. Now it's 5 days until we leave. My sister seems to have settled on who we want to be our emergency contact for Yoda's camp. All of my closest friends live in either Philly or DC, which definitely does not qualify as local. I'm okay with her choice, the adoptive family. The mother has some questionable taste in men, but she'll take care of Yoda if anything were to come up.
I need to add her to the forms and get her number to give to the kennel. I don't expect that there's going to be any problems, but better to be safe.
I have a few more packages coming today, and I know Jess' bag is coming on Monday. I think that'l be one of the last things to come in before they start holding our mail and packages on Wednesday.
My inhalers came yesterday, so that was appreciated. Caremark was kind of slow filling the long acting one, so I was pleased to see if in the bag. I now have two of each type of inhaler. I'll pick up monre psych pills on Tuesday. Aside from Jess' bag and the meds, I have everything I need to go to Alaska.
I was fine yesterday as far as nausea, so maybe when we get back, Mounjaro can be my friend. I'll take the night we get home, so that the bad day will be Monday when I'm off work. Then Tuesday should be just a half day, if that.
5 days now. Jesus, it's coming so soon! I'm currently in a bit of an anxiety mode. It's entirely the pressure I put on myself. I want things to go smoothly and for us to have a lot of fun and relaxation. We all deserve a bit of that.
Yoda insisted on taking a long walk last night, and I realized that the circuit we walk is probably about the length around the ship. I am suddenly also slightly worried about my stamina. It pretty much tanked while I was sick in January, and I've not gotten it back thanks to random knee pain, and back pain. I'm going to be riding the struggle bus, I think. Oh well, at least there's places to sit. I'll be fine to get from place to place, but anything extra could be a challenge. But you know what, we're going to manage.
Today, I have work and game, and then we need to go out, in part, because they forgot to give us Yoda's meds back, and in part, I need to start taking cash out for tips. I'm going to try to get a mixture of bills, but we'll see what the machine will allow. I'm going to be doing it over a couple of days, because I want to have at least $2,000, mostly in smaller bills, with a few 50s and 20s. Once we get to Vancouver, I'll need to get some Canadian money out for housekeeping and for the dudes who will come to get our bags for transport to the ship. I figure I need to tip the drivers, the the porters, the cabin steward and then the bartenders and wait staff. Possibly the concierge, I have no fucking clue.
I'm also trying to find a way to tip the cabin steward that doesn't seem like bribery. I had planned to give them some money when we meet them, but now I'm not sure. Does that seem like bribery for extra stuff, or a good "hello, we tip well and we're thrilled to have you as our steward?" I was figuring on tipping beginning and end, probably $100-$200 total for the steward,
10 for included meals, $20-40 for our excursions and 5 for drinks. I'm thinking that's rather on the high end, but that's okay. Better to be the big tippers than be the one the staff hates.
Right now, the weather looks like it's going to be rainy the whole time we're in Alaska. A little sad about that, but it's still not my desk. And besides, things could change between now and then. I don't really trust the weather until it's 1-2 days out.
Hopefully, any rain we do have will be just occasional showers. We'll make do, whatever, but a hint of sun might be nice.
I can't wait for our adventure to start. We're going to have such fun!
I'm tempted to make up my pill containers for the week. I was just making one days up at night, and then having them for the bedtime and morning doses, but I may make a few, and then pack my meds. I'll probably wait til Monday or Tuesday when I get the psych pills, but if I pack my meds and my earphones, I'll feel better. I might also put my passport in its little spot for easy access.
I've packed binoculars, and a fan for the bedside table, so we'll see how well that works. I do also need to pack a few magnetic hooks in case we need to hang anything up. The ship is of course, made our of metal, so having some hooks is a good way to expand storage in the cabin. I think the Wardrobe is big enough, but just to be safe, I'll bring a few.
I can't wait to finish packing Jess up on Monday. I hope they like their Bento Bag. I think it'll be a good thing to have, especially with all the overnight trips we have coming up. I really love mine, so hopefully they do as well, and it will have many adventures with us.
Planning things is good and fun for my ADHD brain. If it involves planning for every contingency, I'm on it. I'm debating getting a pack of disposable ponchos just in case we need it. I think I have sufficiently warm cold weather clothing, but we'll see. If I need to buy another sweatshirt or jacket in Alaska, I can surely do so.
The real question is going to be souvenirs. Jess has room in their suitcase, so that's something. If I have to, I can pack everything in my much overstuffed main suitcase and leave the carry on open for anything we pick up, though that will definitely result in an overweight bag. I'm planning on keeping my souvenirs small, so hopefully everything will fit without issue. I may see if I can overnight another charger for my phone, just in case. I'm sure they'd be much more expensive on the ship.
One thing I know we're going to have is a blanket and a cup. I ordered the "Welcome to Alaska" package to be in our stateroom when we arrive. I thought it was cute, so I ordered it.
We're rejiggering our plans for Vancouver, because we realized that the hotel has a salt water pool that we'd definitely like to use, so we're probably going to come back to the room by like 2:30 PM, so that we have time for a dip in the hottub.
The more I see about the Pan Pacific Hotel, the more I like it. I'm so excited to spend two days there. It seems like a really fancy and nice hotel. Hopefully traffic between Seattle and Vancouver isn't too bad. I'd love to get there by 5 so we're not struggling to make our dinner reservation. If it looks like a problem, I can always try to rebook it a bit later.
We've never stayed in a 5 star hotel. I've stayed in a 4 star hotel once, and it was lovely. I felt 100% out of place. I was also in. my 20's then. I don't care as much about what people think of me now. Still, it may be a bit of culture shock. Then again, the cruise may be as well.
Guess we're going to see if we're cruise people. In 5 days! *runs in circles screaming*
Today, we have Marchen at 12:30 (yay!!!) Then we shall go to the bank and to pick up Yoda's pills where we forgot them at the daycare. After that, we shall see. I have a new dresser to put together. The box has been sitting here for at least 4 months, mocking me, so I might try to get that put together, so I have somewhere to put the overflow of clothing that we have. This way, we'll have somewhere to put some of the heavier clothes, and leggings, and maybe even a sock drawer.
Tomorrow will be for relaxing a bit, I think. We do a have game with
poisontaster at 6:30pm, so that will be lovely. Maybe, if I'm very ambitious, we'll go out for lunch. We'll gird ourselves for the longest 3 day workweek ever. Maybe, if I'm very ambitious, we'll go out for lunch.
Okay, time to start getting myself in gear. Everyone have a super Saturday!
