Once upon a time these same bright stars did shine down the center line leading here
Today's subject line is brought to you by Mary Chapin Carpenter. I love the dream-like feel of this one. "I wasn't odd or strange, just quietly rearranged" may be one of my favorite lyrics. I love a lot of her songs, but this is probably one of my favorites.
Yesterday was okay, though I had my first progress meeting. It went okay, I guess. They gave me a list of things to work on, so I will do that. It's all stupid shit, like verifying the community and choosing the right protocol, and reading the post dispatch instructions verbatim. So, I will work on it. Police is where I get tripped up the most. There's like 10 potential things to read, and I have trouble sorting which ones actually need saying.
They assured me that I was far from the worst they'd ever seen, so that's a relief. They also said that there's a little wiggle room in those PDIs, which was nice to hear. They feel that everything is fixable, so I'm just going to do my damndest. My next progress meeting is in 2 weeks, so I'm going to get better by then.
They also told me to try to stop kicking myself over a bad call, because every call is a clean slate. I'm not good at that. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am always hard on myself, but I'm going to try.
Yesterday was just icky. it was rainy and gross, especially on my commute home. I've only got two more weeks at the backup center, and then I can go back to driving on a snow emergency route to get to work instead of back road central. I'm looking forward to that. This winding, deer infested route can go straight to hell.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and we've been told to bring a book, because normally, it's quiet during the day. Everyone is traveling to grandmas house. We might have a few things, but usually nothing huge. Plus, I'll be making what amounts to a dollar and change per minute I'm there. I'm very good with that.
We're going to do Thanksgiving dinner on Friday, with all the fixins from Cracker Barrel. We're picking up Friday morning from the one in Pennsylvania, because all the MD ones are horrible. I used to get from the one near the airport, but I'd be waiting for 2 hours because they couldn't keep up with the number of customers. It probably wouldn't be bad for the day after, but I'm going to stick with the one that works. Plus, it's not a bad drive--it's just over the state line.
Okay, time to figure out lunch and get myself together. Everyone have a lovely last day before a holiday! (My American friends, at least. Everyone else, happy Wednesday!)

It sounds to me like you're doing just fine for your first week or two. Given time for things to sink in, I'll bet you'll be the best in the call center.
