There's nothin' that's there for me at my door

It's Friday! Which for me means it's game day! I spent most of yesterday working out encounters for two of the three games. Which involved making three new character sheets, and reworking one. There's still one more to rework, but there's no rush on that.

I'm very excited for this game, since I will finally get to bring in more of my players backstories. Some of them have had some stuff dropped before, but one, I have been sitting on this bit of backstory for two goddamn years, waiting for the right moment, and it's time has finally come. Plus, two more chunks of backstory will be dropping for two players, and a complication for a third player. All my games have their own weave, but after 2+ years, the Frostmaiden and Monster of the Week games have become this incredibly intricate tapestry, and I'm over there plucking the threads and weaving more in.

MotW has become the epitome of "fuck around and find out." The players spent a year doing what basically amounted to a series of one shots. But despite that, the weave started to take hold, and now a year and a half later, the players have so many enemies, and ties to those early mysteries. The monsters they started out fighting have become allies, even as they became less human thanks to some pacts they've made. And, as frequently happens, humans turned out to be even bigger monsters than the ones with fangs and claws.

Frostmaiden is just getting into the finding out portion. They've defeated cultist, frost giants, a banshee and a killer moose. Defeated a god twice (one more incarnation to go!) But now, all those lovely backstory hooks they gave me are coming home to roost. The cool thing is that once we finish the module, there's going to be a dozen more story hooks I can play to keep it going, since the players have indicated that they want to do so.

Overall, though, I'm such a lucky GM. Those were my two first games, and if I hadn't had a good group, I don't know that I'd have so many games running right now. I've seen the horror stories on Reddit, and I look at them and wonder why these people are still playing. I have an incredibly kind and friendly group of people, and I'm grateful for it. They make it fun for me.

Aside from watching the clock til 7, today I need to go over and see Dad. He's been better since I yelled at him, so hopefully that'll continue. I had planned to get up a little early and go get doughnuts, but that didn't happen.

For now, though, I believe it is time for more coffee, and maybe pants.

Everyone have a wonderful Friday!

I think part of what makes the groups great is the mutual respect and admiration for what all of us bring to the table, and you've brought really engrossing, deep, thoughtful stories that make it a pleasure to play along and see how it all comes out in the wash.
