I need to get up and put my hands up
It's Saturday and I'm up early. My sister was supposed to go to a track meet for one of the kids she considers a niece, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate, as it is dreary and rainy this morning. I had already gotten up, so here I am. Sister is up as well, but for the moment, she's relatively quiet.
Once they open, we'll head to the dispensary and pick up some gummies and whatnot for the Lancaster trip. Then we shall relax until 5pm when it's time for our Masks game. I'm not sure what to do for dinner, since we'll be playing, but I'll figure something out. We usually take a 10 minute bio break about an hour and a half in, so we'll feed dad then.
After I finish writing this, I need to pop open a google doc and get down the plot for the Masks game. I've got it in my brain, but I want to get it onto the page, since that's when I usually find the plot holes, and expand on some things. My prep for some games is more intensive than others. I think I probably spend more on the pre written modules, as I read through them regularly to make sure I have everything down. Plus, the Frostmaiden game, we've gone so far off the plot as written that I spend a lot of time figuring out what to do on that. The main plot is still there, and the players are doing the occasional quest, but a lot of it is antagonists that the game didn't include doing nefarious things.
I really enjoy DMing for my players. It's funny, I write plenty of words for the games and here, but if you asked me to write fic, I'd be at a loss. I guess my brain has moved on to a different bit of creativity. I love the feeling of sketching out the plot and watching it come alive as the players take over and run with it. It inevitably goes in directions I didn't expect, but that's part of the fun.
Last night was the OG campaign, Monster of the Week. We continued the Seven Deadly Sin-demons plot. The team first went for wrath, who is the football coach of the Tennyson Tigers. After the team rally was spoiled by members of West Ferry High, the coach has rented the local Jewish Community Center Day camp for a little recreational possession.
The team gets there just in time and banish the coach and cure the possession of the football players. Then, they head to find Gluttony and Greed and Pride. Originally the plan is to get Gluttony, but word that the Mayor is calling an earth shaking press conference derails that, and they go to kidnap the mayor and his advisor (who is Pride). The Divine teleports the two of them to an abandoned warehouse, and Pride is dispatched. Then, with some difficulty, they convince the mayor not to reveal the existence of the supernatural world.
Then, it's off to Elion Blade-member of the Winter Court of Fairie-who is being influenced by Greed. After a brief meeting at a coffee shop, he agrees to let them visit his office. There they find a lot of mob goons and Michael Shaunessy, who is possessed by Greed. Since the team has ties to the rival mob the Franchetti's, it's uncomfortable.
As they face off with the Shaunessy mob, one of the enforcers runs in and turns on the TV, where the Deputy Mayor is announcing the death of the Mayor by werewolf, and the existence of the supernatural. After this, with some fuckery, they manage to banish the demon without banishing Shaunessy, and they run like hell, managing to get out of their enemies den without taking damage.
Then, it's off to the Mayors office where they find out that the Deputy Mayor is actually another Divine, set to start a holy war to cleanse the population and prepare them to fight. This is in preparation for the coming of Abaddon, the Demon Lord, who the team made a deal with to return in 1 year. (6 months left on that deal).
We wrapped there, with our heroes well and truly boned, and Gluttony still to deal with. The backstory for this game has approached an insane level and I'm grateful for my GoogleDocs as I'd be lost without it.
Okay, time to go forth and get my day started. Have a good Saturday everyone!
