Where the bridges I have burned never really led home

It is way too early to be awake this morning. With D&D last night, I didn't get to sleep until around 12:30, yet my body had me awake at 7. Ew. But on the other hand, I had to get up by 8:30 to take the dog to his grooming appointment at 10, so I guess it's okay.

It's snowing pretty heavily here at the moment, so I'm not really looking forward to the drive to the groomer, but I will have to deal. Maryland weather, y'all. Last week it was 80 damn degrees, and now, snow. Hopefully, this will be the last weather event before things start warming up for spring. I'm not looking forward to summer, mind you, but I'd like a little bit of spring, even if it means my allergies will go haywire.

Yesterday was quiet and chill. We watched a little of the Great Pottery Throwdown, and I spent some time puttering through youtube over my latest obsession. Next year, Jess turns 40, and I turn 50, so I'd like to do a real vacation, somewhere fun. We're thinking about Disneyworld as a destination. It seems to be a fat people utopia as far as rides. I've been watching a bunch of ride videos, and the plus size bloggers all seem to be able to fit on all the rides. Most of them are around 300lbs, so I'm fairly sure my 250 will be able to fit. We're figuring on doing the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

I thought about trying to squish Universal Studios in there, but they don't seem anywhere near as fat friendly, and I hate to even indirectly give money to JK Rowling. As usual, I will plan this like we are preparing an incursion into the parks. I will have maps of each park, and know exactly where we're going each day, because I'm like that.

Anyhow, last night was D&D. Our intrepid heroes decided (wisely) to hit town before they went to investigate the ghost ship. A little bit of shopping later, and everyone had either potions of cold resistance or items of cold resistance, which are clutch when you're fighting mostly cold-based monsters. Then, after a full night's rest, with all the spell slots restored, it was off to the Dark Duchess ship.

The ship was trapped in ice, and easy to get aboard. However, they found two ice trolls aboard, looking for a snack. The fight was short, and the party prevailed easily. In the hold, they found a small dragon's hoard, covered in ice, and four kobolds who are allies to the dragon. They also found a goat, who they immediately befriended. The sorcerer decided to go outside and use ice and fire spells to construct a large dragon sculpture to suck up to the white dragon should she make an appearance. Which she did, soon after. The sorcerer got a ridiculously high persuasion roll, and so the dragon was in a good mood, and looked upon the sculpture with favor. They gave her a couple of other dragon sculptures, which she immediately added to her hoard. Then, she suggested that they vacate the area.

The party wind walked back to town, but were attacked along the way, by a fairly large party of Auril's minions. This fight was a little less of a curb stomp, thought he bugbear rogue rolled particularly well and one shotted one of the creatures. The fight actually lasted a few rounds, and some damage was taken, so the decision was made to create a tiny hut, and take a short rest. As they reached the end of their rest, the flapping of wings were heard, and a roc, with a creature riding it came into sight. It was none other than our BBEG, Auril! She dispelled the tiny hut, and the roc did a diving attack, slashing at the fighter. Since it was already 11, we held it there, with the boss battle to pick up again at our next session. Cliffhanger, yay!

Okay, dog has now been dropped off for his day of beauty, and we are safely home. Here's hoping the snow turns to rain before we have to pick him up. Everyone have a lovely Saturday!

Feel free to hit me up for Disney World info--seriously! We go a lot and I can cover everything from which of the (ridiculously) expensive restaurants are worth it for a double Significant Birthday Celebration to which of the cheaper counter service restaurants are amazing (and not just burgers and fries) to where to go when you've hit the totally-overwhelmed-and-about-to melt-down portion of a WDW vacation. I also have well-honed Opinions on what hotels are good/worth the money and what sections of town outside the parks work better than others.

For the mother-lode of planning strategies, check out touringplans.com and for general atmosphere/food options (to an excessive level) the Disney Food Blog has a youtube channel with multiple updates each week.

(WDW is truly the mothership for obsessive planners--it's like gamification on crack.)

The MK hotels are terrific but suuuuuuuper pricey. Like, I-need-a-fainting-couch pricey. That being said, the Contemporary is the shortest walk to MK & has Incredibles-themed rooms that I love. (If I’m going to spend MK-hotel money, though, I go for the Wilderness Lodge b/c it’s slightly cheaper, the theming is amazing & I can sometimes catch a Vacation Club distress rental there which will get me & my mob a kitchen at not-fainting-couch prices.)

Since you’re planning all 4 parks, one of the Skyliner hotels might be a good bet. That would get you Skyliner access to Epcot & Hollywood Studios & then busses to MK & AK. The cheaper hotels on that line are Pop Century & Art of Animation (Little Mermaid rooms only—-everything else are family suites & thus $$$)

But really, the Disney bus system is pretty solid for getting around & the ride-share ecosystem is thriving in Orlando so you can use that if you want (though MK access is wonky b/c there’s Always Something with Disney—-I can explain further if you end up deciding not to bus things; this comment is already a book, lol)

Two cliffhangers in two days! I love this weekend.
