Fic: Upon My Liar's Chair 13/?) WIP
Title: Upon My Liar's Chair
Rating: Adult
Disclaimer: Thankfully, this didn't happen. I don't know them, I don't know what they do in their spare time, but I doubt it's any of this.
A/N: Much love to my wife for doing the quick once over. Sweet Charity fic, for avid_slacker.
Warning: Character injury, permanent disability.
“I'm going to wring his neck,” Jared growled.
Sandy smacked his arm lightly. “No you're not. You're going to do exactly what Jeff asked you to do. Jensen needs you to be his friend, not his mommy.” She narrowed her eyes at Jeff. “That goes for you, too.”
“I know. I just freaked out,” Jeff said, ducking his head. “I know too many people, hell, too many friends who went that path and never came back.”
“You're from Seattle, right?”
“Yeah. Grunge central. With a ton of people who made overdosing an art form.”
“But this is Jensen,” Sandy prompted. “He fucked up, but I don't think he would...”
“No. I just...yeah.” Jeff closed his mouth before he really started blurting shit he didn't want to.
She gave Jeff a sympathetic smile. “Understandable. You doing okay? This has to be hard on you.”
Jeff chuckled dryly. “It's okay. I'm holding up. I just wish I could do more.”
“Dude, how long have I know you? Four years? Yeah, that 'I'm okay' thing didn't work when you'd been on the set for ten hours, much less now,“ Jared muttered.
“You're right. I'm not. I just-” Jeff gestured, trying to find the words to explain something he didn't understand himself. “He's hurting so much. And I want to help, but everything I do is wrong. I'm not sure I'm the right guy to do this.”
Sandy shook her head. “You are such a man sometimes,” she said fondly. “I think you're the perfect guy to do this. And when he gets his balance again, he's going to see what an awesome friend you really are. Maybe even more.”
Jeff glared at Jared. “I thought that was between us,” he muttered.
“I didn't tell her,” Jared said quickly.
“Didn't have to. It's pretty obvious,” Sandy mumbled around a mouthful of pastry.
“I am not obvious!” Jeff hissed.
“Oh, Jeff,” she grinned. “You have no idea.” She looked down. “Okay, I'm going to take the babies to go do their business. You two talk amongst yourself.” She took Sadie's leash from Jared and headed over to the grassy area.
“Dude," Jeff said. "Your fiance is terrifying.”
Jared smiled. “Yeah. She is.” He looked at Jeff, focusing. “So, you haven't told him yet, I take it.”
“No. Jare, it's hardly the right time.”
“Yeah. If you say so. You know that his parents haven't called since he got out of the hospital, right?”
“What? No, I didn't. Why the hell not?”
Jared shrugged. “Who knows. I don't think they know how to handle it. His sister's called, and his brother, but not the parents. Hell, some of his 'friends' haven't called in a while, either.”
“I know Steve and Christian have been calling, Jason too.”
Jared nodded. “Yeah, but he's been fobbing them off, too. Hell, you're the only one who's seen him in the last month.”
“He's in for some culture shock tonight, then.”
“No kidding. Though really, it's just a handful. The makeup and hair chicks, Kim, Eric, Cyrus and Bob.”
“What happened to everyone else?”
Jared glanced down, shrugging. “Smallville needed people for a second unit night shoot. And hey, at least they're getting paid.”
His cell phone vibrated against his hip, and Jeff glanced down. “Gotta go pick up Jen,” Jeff muttered.
“Okay, dude. Take it easy.”
“I wish.”

This is a cool chapter. Jared going caveman, Sandy scolding, and Jeff so uncertain of himself. Loving it! What more can I say (without writing an entire essay)?
Waiting (somewhat) patiently for more. :-)
