OMG!

I'm going to cut because I want to babble my ass off about this without worrying about spoilers, but for those who don't want spoilers, let me just say, *SQUEEEEEE!*

First off, wow. The whole look of Hogwarts is different--not in a bad "what the fuck did he do" way. It's more little things, like the giant clock tower, the walk down to Hagrid's, the big bridge, and the expanded grounds. It feels so much bigger than life now. But at the same time, it also manages to seem more real. The magic has a bigger impact now, because it seems more at odds with the surroundings. It's like the golden patina wore away, and while we're left with sweeping arches of stone, we're also left with shadows, and mystery.

I'll warn you up front, this isn't a literal translation. You're not going to find the Chris Columbus method of picking the important scenes, and going word for word. Some of the scenes are changed. Some never even came close to happening in the book. But, it works. Instead of thinking. "Yes, and then the...and then..." I was thinking "wow. That's gorgeous, and oooh, so cool!"

The kids are flat out wonderful, having grown into the characters beautifully. Daniel's turning into quite the hottie, and Rupert is just amazing. Emma is a lovely young woman, and Tom Felton, while being cute as anything, totally made me loathe Draco.

The hippogriff was wonderful. I forgot about it being a CGI character quickly.

Then, there was the adults. Especially the Three. Snape, Sirius, and Remus.

Oh my god.

So freaking perfect.

I'm wholeheartedly in love with Remus and Sirius. Their love is so true and so gay! So gay. Snape got a great line about them bickering like an old married couple. The Shrieking Shack scene was just a thing of beauty.

And now, having babbled, I shall go do work. I'm sure I'll end up adding stuff to this later, as I think of more, though.

One thing I will say, there were about a dozen times during the movie where the crowd broke into applause, just out of sheer delight. So, basically, if you're a "by the books" person, you'll probably hate it, but if you're willing to give some flexibility to the storyline, it's a blast.
