The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls In tenement halls.

It's Saturday, but we're working, so we're up early. After a late night with Frostmaiden, I would certainly have enjoyed more sleep, but here we are. It's a moderately busy day, as we have a few things to be done. First work, then lunch, then we have an appointment to get Jess' suit fitted. (So far, it's not great.) Needs some work, since the pants don't even zip. I think they mis-measured their hips. What that's going to mean, I'm not sure. They might be able to let them out, but realistically, I think they're going to have to make new pants. If that's the case, they might not be back in time for the cruise (68 days and counting). That wouldn't be disasterous, since we do have other pants that would work just fine.

Yesterday was a busy, but slightly less hectic day. I did get an email for the other non radiology job that I'd applied for way back. They'd like to interview me as well. Meanwhile, absolutely no movement in the radiology job. I'm getting a bit annoyed as it's been two weeks since I applied, and at that time they were rather hot to keep me. I know things have been busy, but they're always busy.

I decided that I'm going to do the interview. This job is with our medical concierge, and thus pays a bit more than Radiology advertises, by about $3 per hour. Rad goes up to $33, but concierge goes as high as $36. Which would put me at $79k. I would not sneeze at that. The interview is on Thursday, so that'll be fun.

While I was getting ready for work, I was thinking about college, and looking at my little Macbook. It's not holding a charge as well as it used to, and I started wondering if I should look into something with a little better processing power. Some of my apps take upwards of 10 seconds to open, especially Word and Excel. I was looking at a Macbook Pro, but I did a little more research and decided that I did not need that much machine, as I'm not doing any heavy duty video editing.

So, instead, I went in and looked at the Apple Certified Refurbished items. I ended up finding a nice 15" Macbook Air. It's got the latest chip, and 16GB of memory and a 1T hard drive. It was released in mid 2025, so it's pretty up to date. The Pro would have run $2499, and it wouldn't have been exactly what I wanted, only a 512Mb hard drive. This ran me $1400, which is still a ridiculous amount, but it should serve for another 5-10 years no problem. I decided to keep this one, and possibly take it to Alaska rather than the new one. I'll see how it goes.

I was worried about the sturdiness of the Air, but I watched some videos, and it seems like they bulked it up slightly so it doesn't feel quite as thin. I'm looking forward to the bigger screen. The one I have now is 13", so 15" will feel like an upgrade I'm sure. I also figured if I'm going to be reading on it a lot, it might be good to have the bigger screen for my old eyes. Progressives can only do so much.

After work, Jess and I discussed next year's vacation. I've been watching flights, and it seems like the they may price us out of the Iceland cruise. We could afford a Mediterranean cruise, since there we'd be flying into and out of major European cities like Barcelona or Athens. Or we could go to Hawaii.

We both were a little hesitant about Hawaii, because I remember some people were saying they didn't want tourists coming. We did some further reasearch, and there definitely are still some people who hate tourists. But it seems like the majority want respectful tourists, because it's a large part of their economy. So, we decided to do it. We're aiming to go in mid April for a week, Sunday to Saturday. It's the shoulder season, so it shouldn't be blisteringly hot, and the prices are better. It's too early to book flights, but I've started looking at resorts. It's still going to be pricey, but the airfare should be about $2000/person vs $5000 to go to Europe.

The resorts all look lovely, so I'm going to have a hard time choosing. Do we do Waikiki beach and be in the middle of the action, or do we do one of the other islands where things are a bit quieter. I'm leaning towards Waikiki for ease of hotel transfer. It's terribly commercial, but I'm sure we can find some locally run places to give our money to. I don't know if we're going to be able to do that with the hotel. There's only a few locally owned places, and they don't really have the amenities that I want. I'm still researching, so maybe I can find something.

Then we had frostmaiden, which was lovely. It was a rare day off for our characters, and we had some really lovely role play. Next time, they get to fight the Forgotten Prince, a low level god who has something they need. I pulled in one of the character's backstories, so that's always good.

We're into the last arc of of the game, with just the Forgotten Prince and the big battle with Tiamat to go. I'm going to be sorry to leave these characters, but after 5 years, I have no more things for them to do. It was my first D&D campaign, and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but all good things must come to an end, and it's time. I've got a really vicious stat block for Tiamat, so the final battle should be a kick. I do need to put the stats into the game, and create the stats for her handmaidens, so I have a bit of work to do before we get into it.

I got a sticker from the apartments that my car registration is out of date, which it's not. I just have been lazy about putting the new sticker on it. So I'll do that today when we go out. I'm annoyed at the sticker, since I'm going to need alcohol wipes to get the sticky off. Just put it under my wiper like civilized people, dammit. Generally, I can't even be mad, since this was 100% on me, since I've been procrastinating for months.

Next month, I need to go get my emissions done. I suck at that, too. But I should be able to go up one evening and get it done, or on a Saturday morning.

Tomorrow, we have game, and then I will probably be ferrying my sister to the train station for her NYC trip.

Okay, time for me to consider getting myself together. Everyone have a stellar Saturday!
