Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
Doing this early while I still have brain cells. I am sitting here observing, and there hasn't been a call in about 45 minutes. The dude I'm sitting with is currently surfing tiktok. In short, it is very quiet.
So far, the fatigue hasn't really hit, but I feel like when it does, it's going to kick my ass. At the moment, I'm on my third coffee. I'll probably have another when I get home because I still have to do a doctor's appointment at 10.
My day went mostly as planned. I went back to bed around 9am, but I was only able to sleep til 2. I would have liked another 3 or 4 hours, but it just wasn't to be.
I spent the first half of the night in fire dispatch. We had a few calls, but unfortunately I was in lead dispatch, so I didn't get to rubberneck on them. Lead dispatch just tells the personnel where to go. Then the secondary dispatch takes over. It's not that interesting.
Calltaking was apparently fairly steady during the first 4 hours. It's just now that I'm on it, you could hear the crickets chirping.
I'm not wishing misery on anyone, but it would be nice to get something other than burglar alarms.
The midnight crew seems to be an interesting bunch. A little more laid back than the day crowd. I think when I'm not trying to rewrite my sleep cycle in a single day, I'll be good with it.
I'm not sure how they're picking the people we sit with. Then again, it seems like we were just foisted on the shift managers without much warning.
I'm just glad this didn't fuck up any of my games this weekend. We had Curse of Strahd last night, where I gave not one, but two PCs lycanthropy.
This afternoon, we have Mad Mage, presuming that the fatigue behaves for a few extra hours. Then Sunday, I'm running a one shot twice, once for the morning people, and again for the afternoon crowd.
Just over 1 hour to go!
Everyone have the peachiest of Saturdays!
