Connection in an isolating age
Day 3 of vacation! Sadly, our last full day in Lancaster. But so far, it's been really good.
Yesterday, we went to the Old Navy and Disney outlets and got some clothes. Old Navy was necessary, Disney probably less so, but so much fun. We got some shirts and a new pair of shorts from Old Navy, and Jess fulfilled their gender dreams by getting a loud Hawaiian shirt to wear as an overshirt. It has oranges on a dark blue background. It's amazing. Then, Disney, I found another Maleficent shirt That's soft and says "No Rest For the Wicked" on it on a gray tie dyed background. Jess found another Hawaiian shirt. Plus, totally on a whim, I bought a pride Star Wars pin and a pride tote bag. Totally not needed, but I feel like I should reward them for standing up for gay rights, and all proceeds go to LGBTQ+ charities.
We had lunch at a lovely brew house that had frankly amazing duck poutine fries. Tasty smoked cheese, duck gravy, huge chunks of duck. It was so good y'all. We also went to the Coffee Co. co-op, and I had an incredible chai tea latte. I think we're going back today to get another.
Today is Jess' birthday! We have much planned, including trips to get the good ice cream, and to the wine shop to pick up a thank you present for my sister for taking care of the cat. Then, it's to the swedish candy store to browse. I think for dinner Jess has decided on the Mexican place we had the first night, which had cheesy chorizo fries.
Tomorrow, sadly, it's back to reality, though I have two more days off after this. It's been really nice not to be at Dad's beck and call. My sister has been regularly sending us cat pictures which has been nice. I miss the babies.
Last night thanks to the hotels ample wifi, we played D&D! The party dealt with mostly administrative stuff, as they had an unstable artifact that they needed to pawn off to someone to fix. Also a charred corpse who had been working on said artifact. Before they could deal with that, they were hailed by a wandering Were bear. After a friendly wrestling match with the team rogue, she offered the party her gift of lycanthropy. Several members accepted and their strength scores were immediately bumped up to 19, and they got the ability to shift into a polar bear.
When they arrived at the town, the big bad flew over, riding a blue dragon, once again reweaving the spell to keep the area locked in an endless winter. The party decided since she was focused on that, not to start shit right then, because Dragon.
They went to the town and checked in with the corpses friend who said he wasn't sure if the corpse would want to be raised, and the town jeweler who was thoroughly unhelpful with the artifact. He could certainly craft the piece needed, but would have no clue about how to attach or merge it.
This necessitated a trip to the duergar fortress, home to the burgeoning mushroom ale business the party helped to set up. Grandolpha, the leader, agreed to help, seeing as they had bored artificers who were currently working on their new line of toy mechanical pseudo dragons.
Then, it was back to the cabin to grab the corpse and take it back to town to raise. In the meantime, the evil wizard once again attempted to scry on them. Once the corpse was raised, we closed for the night.
It was awesome to play without interruption for a change. No Dad and Shelly talking loudly (because Dad is rather deaf) no dog barking. No worrying about who had eaten and if anyone needed anything. All in all, it was lovely.
Okay, time to start our day. Have a great Saturday, everyone!
