And a trouble that can't be named
It's my day off, so obviously, I had to wake up at 6:30. Poor Jess was right with me, too. Oh well, we'll compensate by going to bed early. I had a little energy, so I took some frozen puff pastry dough and made raspberry turnovers. I'm horrible at getting the jam to stay in the pastry, but it's still very tasty.
Not much going on today. Have to get our order from Walmart between 11-12, and pick up our cat food from Petsmart, but aside from that, nothing planned. Probably will watch more of the Great Pottery Throwdown on HBOMax. It's from the people who make Great British Bakeoff, and has that same low-stakes easy going competition vibe. I really enjoy it. I just haven't had the brain cells to watch plotty tv lately, so this is a nice soothing option. I think my sister is going over to a friend's house to do a long delayed Christmas.
Yesterday was equally chill. I went and got lunch and dinner, but otherwise, I just kind of took it easy. Lunch was from a little Greek sub shop called Pita Pan. I ate way more than I should have, but it was so good. Dinner was Mission BBQ, who have a black plate special of grilled and BBQ glazed shrimp, which I also devoured.
We've been listening to Dimension 20's Fantasy High Sophmore year, and they've reached the point in the plot where the tension is ramping up towards endgame, and I'm just like okay, mainline this shit into my veins. We usually listen to about an hour and a half every night and I think we have like three episodes left in this season. Then, it'll be time to decide what to listen to next. I'm torn between Pirates of Leviathan and Unsleeping City. Both sound interesting. Still, I really hope they make more Fantasy High, because I really love these characters. And some of the decisions the players make are buck wild. I'm leaning towards Pirates of Leviathan, because I really do enjoy Matt Mercer's playstyle. I couldn't quite get into Critical Role, but I enjoy him as a player, and his voice is soothing.
I feel like Fantasy High is probably a good actual play podcast if you're looking for a starting place. That may be because it's the closest to how I play D&D? Not horribly rules heavy, with a DM who's willing to let the players do their thing, but knows when to say no. The players are personable, and I've really enjoyed it, even as I despaired at characters making bad decisions. All in all, it's a lot of fun.
Okay, time for me to get some more coffee. Have a good Saturday everyone!
