I tuck you in, warm within, keep you free from sin
For a quiet day, we got a decent amount done!
After some discussion during the morning, we decided to get sushi for lunch. Unfortunately, they don't deliver, so it was off to fetch the sushi! We ate frankly way too much sushi, but it was so good! We did try a new roll, which wasn't to our liking. The Crunchy roll failed to live up to it's billing sadly. We're not horribly adventurous on our sushi. Philly roll, California roll and Shrimp Tempura roll are the faves, and we tend to stay with that.
Then, my sister was getting into full swing of showing us everything on her Facebook and Twitter feed, so we needed to get out of the house. So we decided to go to Old Navy and check out the new plus size stuff. Jess ended up getting two pairs of bike shorts, and I found a cute pair of nicer shorts in a size 20 that fit me. It was weird to fit something that small, but they look nice, so Whatever? I definitely don't have a good judge of my body size at the moment. Everything looks way too small for me and then it fits perfectly.
Then, we got home and relaxed a bit before it was time for Monster of the Week! We picked up right where we left off, at the crew's arch nemesis Dessa's abandoned house. Tossing the house produced a bill of sale for a composting toilet and an RV. As they finished, Gino Franchetti, mob boss and occasional employer, called, stating that they had word that Dessa was preparing a hit on him, bringing in a heavy hitter to get past his protections. They had a bookseller who worked for the rival Shaunessy gang that was willing to speak with them about some recent occult book acquisitions that Dessa had made.
The bookseller told them that they'd recently come into a copy of the Book of the Dead's Spanish translation, and Dessa took it off their hands.
The Book of the Dead is used to summon a variety of extraplanar beings, most notably, demons from a hell dimension. It's usually preceded by it's handmaiden imps who masquerade as cherubs, granting wishes for a price, and killing people to increase it's master's power.
A quick spell confirms that there are four imps at the convention center where American Idol tryouts are taking place. Thinking quickly, the team calls in a bomb threat to clear the convention center, hopefully before the imps can make any deals.
When they arrive, there's an imp stalking Simon Cowell in the parking lot. They quickly deal with it, and don police windbreakers and walk in looking authoritative. The Spellslinger deals with one of the imps quickly, but the Crooked and the Flake run into some difficulties, namely a cop who was making a deal with the imp and wasn't happy to be disturbed.
The crooked knocks him out, and ties him up in a closet before they banish the imp back to its dimension.
The Expert and the Divine run into an imp attempting to charm a whole group of policemen into making a deal. The Divine uses their teleport power to grab the imp and teleport somewhere to deal with it, but rolls poorly and ends up back at the Denny's parking lot. They drag the imp into the back alley and deal with it via application of flaming sword. The cops begin fanning out, looking for the people who just disappeared in front of them, and the Expert texts the team that it's time to go.
The team heads towards the caves where they fought crystal spiders back in the day, and find an RV parked in the brush nearby. They encounter a crystal spider outside the cave, but they've never put down the air horns that they found were effective against them, and quickly turned it to dust.
Inside, they find Dessa, and a large pulsing vagina of a portal. Dessa fails to acknowledge the team, focusing on the portal. Large shadow dogs guard her. A fight ensues, as the portal slowly changes color and the demon starts to be birthed into this world. After a long fight with everyone taking damage, the Crooked finally deals the killing blow to her archnemesis, and they turn their eyes to the demon who's three quarters of the way through.
A spell stops the portal, and the demon makes a bargain. He'll go back to the hell dimension for one year, but then will be free to return and make this world his own. With the team banged up and unprepared for an actual demon, they agree and will spend the rest of the month preparing for Abaddon's return. We closed it there, with one nemesis down, and a new one created.
After the game, we feasted on excellent Phillipino barbecue and rotisserie chicken from Mama Rosa's Grill. Seriously, really good and so much food!
Okay, time to get more coffee and get ready for work. Have a good Sunday!
