I wish I could carry your smile in my heart

Last day of work for the week, and of course, half my coworkers are out, so I'll be doing all their markets. Actually, the coworker I substitute for is off until Tuesday, so it's going to be a long few days. I might actually have stuff to do for a few hours! We'll see what time they come in today. I'll get done the ones I can, but I'm just not going to stress.

Our bonus finally showed up in our portal. It's more than I was expecting! Taxes were a bitch and took close to 35% of it, but my take home is still substantial. It won't hang around for long because bills, but I'll enjoy it in the meantime. I'll be able to get some nice Christmas presents for my sister and father for Christmas! (I'm not going to overdo it, because I know my sister doesn't have that much money to buy Jess and I stuff and I don't want her to feel bad.)

We'll also be getting a nice dinner on Friday. I'm leaning towards the celebration or Date Night package at Fogo de Chao. It all depends on whether I feel like driving downtown to get it. I think I probably will, to be honest. I really, really want a good steak.

Aside from that, and a couple of bills, I believe it will go to vet visits for the babies. I want to get Sam's thyroid checked, since he's always hungry and still a skinny kitty.

The last of our Thanksgiving sides will arrive today. I'm getting the distinct feeling that we might have overbought. We now have a 10lb turkey, six sides and three desserts, plus some appetizers. The sides are all on the small side, but there's a lot of them. I'm really looking forward to trying out all of it! Here's hoping it's tasty. We'll definitely have leftovers, that's for sure.

My Rime of the Frostmaiden group have again indicated that they'd like to continue playing these characters when we finish the module, so I suppose it's time to start thinking about what story I'd like to tell next with them. They'll be pretty high level, so it'll definitely need to be something big. Just something to keep in the back of my mind, since there's a fair amount of the module left. Still, that gives me a warm fuzzy, knowing that my players are having so much fun that they don't want it to end. There's an old module that I think I could adapt, or alternately, I could just homebrew up something.

Jess and I were talking about how much Monster of the Week and D&D have been sanity savers the last 18 months. It's been something to look forward to every couple of weeks. It's been socialization when we couldn't be around people. It's been making and hanging out with friends. And it's been relatively free entertainment. There was an initial outlay for the books and the module, but considering how many hours we've spend using them, it was totally worth it. It's 3 hours spent with friends, dealing with fictional problems that can be solved, either by diplomacy or violence. It's a nice switch from real life.

I know I'm not the best GM ever. I play fast and loose with the rules as written sometimes, and I'm probably a little too generous and permissive, but as long as my players are having fun, that's what matters to me.

Okay, tis time for me to get ready for work. Have a good Thanksgiving Eve!
